Description
Animal sanctuary and rare breeds centre located in magnificent woodland landscape in Galicia, Spain. Located in a picturesque village where the people lead a traditional subsistence farming lifestyle. Based in an Interesting Galician farmhouse built in 1890 to house the monks of a nearby monastery with many original features including stables on the ground floor, bread oven, lareira, water well and chapel. Plenty of practical hands on work with the animals, on the house restoration, maintaining the woodland and clearing the camino’s. Lots of secluded peaceful places to get away from it all and enjoy the glorious countryside. Children and pets welcome.

Galego is widely spoken here as well as Spanish and English. There are often people from other European countries so plenty of opportunities to improve your language skills.
Help
Help feeding and caring for the animals which include a dog, cats, goats, chickens and ducks. Donkeys and pigs will soon be added to the rare breeds collection. The goats and pigs are to be kept in their natural woodland environment helping to keep the woodland clear of invasive brambles. General help around the house carrying out maintenance work and housekeeping. Gardening and clearing of woodland footpaths. Construction of animal shelters and fences.

A wide range of accommodation in the house including private double bedrooms for couples, shared rooms with single beds for individuals and camping if preferred. Meals can be taken privately or communally. Mostly vegetarian but meat and fish is consumed occasionally. Vegans and special dietary needs catered for.

Approximately four hours of work required each day split between morning and late afternoon to suit the animals routine. Plenty of time off for walks in the countryside, visiting local tourist sites, private pastimes or private work. Good internet for digital nomads. No smoking in the house, only in the designated outdoor smoking location. No smoking in the surrounding woodland due to the high risk of fire. No illegal substances. Alcohol in moderation. No public transport, car would be convenient but not essential. Host will pick up and collect you from nearest town, take you shopping and to visit local tourist sites.
