Description
We are a family on an organic homestead in Torere, Bay of Plenty. Our farm overlooks the fields & orchards, with the ocean in the background. The gardens provide us with food all year round, and we frequently visit the ocean to fish and set craypots. The majority of the food comes from the land and sea.
We have 2 dogs, 1 cat and multiple chickens. Mike is a talented woodworker. He has built all the buildings and structures on the property, in which all the timber has been milled on his woodmizer portable sawmill. Claire's passion is in the garden , you can feel the vibrancy when walking through, and hear the love when she speaks of what is going on in it.
John, Dan, and Ben are Mike and Claire's sons, and they are often visiting or living on the farm.Types of help and learning opportunities

Help
The gardens are a vital part of our farm, and if you are willing to learn, there is a a great store of knowledge here. Along with the gardens, there is general maintenance on the property, painting, lawn mowing (ride-on), weed whacking, pruning, weeding, fishing, cooking. Depending on the season there is also a lot of preserving and fermenting going on. Claire makes her own sourdough, saurkraut, apple cider vinegar, preserves so if you are interested in learning, the choice is yours!

Accommodation
There is a cabin with two rooms, double bed in one and double beds and single bed in the other, with a shower area that connects onto our outdoor summer kitchen. We have an outside bath area also, under the stars over looking the sea. We provide home grown food and locally source meats and fish. It is very nourishing food and we have no doubts that you will enjoy it as our passion is growing and cooking nourishing food.
What else ...
There are many beaches around here in which you can explore, the motu trails in Opotiki is a great cycling track along the dunes and into the forest mountains. There are many walks within 30mins drive and the East coast is a hidden gem to explore. It is preferred if you have your own means of transportation. The closest town is Opotiki which is 15mins drive.
