    Description

We are Mickael and Marjorie a couple in our thirties from France (we met here in Quebec, working as dog sledding guides) and we are building our own house. (We're almost finished! The exterior siding and interior finishing touches still need to be done.)
We are also parents to three adorable huskies and a cat!
We don't impose work on ourselves, and simply having someone with us to help us in exchange for a room and board would be a real plus! We would even be able to work in the village for a little extra income if needed.
Mickael is away about every other week because his daughter is in Quebec City, and he goes with her.
You would spend the majority of your time with Marjorie. Following numerous experiences through other volunteering platforms, we now want to become hosts! We love to go fishing and enjoy the outdoors so it's not every day that we go to work and if you want to enjoy outdoor activities with us, you are welcome.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We both speak French mainly but there is no problem communicating in English and we would be happy to improve our skills as well as teach you French if that is something that interests you.
As French immigrants for more than 10 years, we still have some roots, but we have developed Quebec habits!! So if you want to discover what the mix gives, don't hesitate to ask us and we will show you the best of both! (or the worst too ahahha)
We can pass on to you all the knowledge we have developed since the beginning of construction, whether in logging, electricity, construction, etc.
We also each have skills we'd be happy to share with you!
Mickael is a welder, builder, part-time mechanic, accountant, baker... in short, a true Swiss Army knife!
Marjorie is an environmental guide, lumberjack, and tree climber. We're both dog sled guides and can talk at length about our experiences!

  • Help

    Help

The day would be rather relaxed, and the person present would be quite free to do what they want. Someone who loves dogs and who would like to cuddle them or walk them, and who, if they wish, would take care of the garden or small jobs around (we have a forest, so there are plenty of things to do for someone looking for projects!). We would like to share our knowledge with someone who is eager to learn, and who is ready to help us in our daily life.
We are self-building, and need help to finish the cladding of the house. If you are planning to build yourselves, we can explain all the steps we went through, and you will be able to see the progress, as well as carry out the last and meticulous step with us. Above all, we need someone to help us in our daily lives and who wants to learn about self-construction in Quebec, or how we manage to live in the woods.

We have a basement bedroom planned for the visit that you can use, with access to the rest of the house of course!
We don't have any special diet, and like to get our eggs and meat from the neighbor who has a farm.
if you have a special diet we can adapt, however, we are quite addicted to BBQs that we won't stop ourselves from doing some if you don't eat meat, but we fully respect everyone's choices and beliefs!

    What else ...

We hope that having dog hair on your clothes and mud in your hair doesn't bother you because here, we live with nature and we don't worry about it!
If you've already done construction and you like to cook on top of that, you're our unicorn, hahaha!

We already had a scoolie for a year in the garden, a friend who came to stay in the courtyard, so we have the space, and if we need more privacy, we have a corner of the field a little further away available

    Can possibly accept pets

Our three dogs are super friendly and accept all friends. An old neutered male and two unneutered females. We would like to welcome animals with the same vibe, and having a cat. Obviously, we would like cat-friendly animals if possible, or otherwise, make sure to tie them up because the cat remains a cat and goes wherever it wants.
