Description
We're a Dutch-American couple who bought an off-grid property in central Portugal to get closer to nature. And there’s LOTs of it here! :) Our place sits in a private valley next to a small river, facing a pine tree forest--so it's peaceful, beautiful, and a great place to get grounded.
We are creative, well-travelled folk, interested in different cultures, ideas, and mindsets. We are big on communication, exploring life and its questions, spiritually-minded, and of course, we love nature, and simple living—or we wouldn’t live here! :)
We are looking for open-minded, curious, respectful and independent people, who know how to communicate, are flexible, and want to experience life in nature. We value creativity, as much as working hard. Because we’re small scale (a couple + 2-3 volunteers) if you volunteer here it's like living together, so there has to be a click. You can stay for a shorter (2 weeks) or longer period (1 month ++). Ultimately, we hope to build a diverse community of people who approach living in a more conscious, playful way.Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
You will learn along side us as we modernise our house, grow vegetables, and do landscaping. We know a lot about fermentation and composting methods. Ultimately, you will learn more about yourself and working in a small group because we like talking and value self-expression. It's about exchanging our life experiences and growing.
Our interests are sustainability, fermentation and food, spirituality, sound healing, music, writing, communication, and people. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who love nature, are independent and able to entertain themselves, as we are small-scale at the moment, a diamond in the rough! :)Help
We are in a building phase, so there is always something to do. Inside, we need help with things like painting, grouting walls, sanding, removing rubble, plastering walls, cooking and general maintenance. If you’re a carpenter, electrician, etc. we could use your help.
We also love and value artists, those who can bring creativity and beauty to our place.
We welcome people with internet savvy, too, as we'd love to learn more about advertising ourselves online.
Outside on the land (4 hectares), we need help with our veggie garden, olive and fruit trees, weeding, raking, watering plants, etc. The list goes on, but we're not in a rush.Languages

I used to teach ESL (English as a Second Language) so can give you lots of advice! I am also a writer and can teach English writing/communication skills.Accommodation
At the moment, it's basic (big glamping tents with comfortable beds, ooh la la!),
We have a compost toilet and keep clean by swimming in the river or our swimming pool (fed by cool mountain water)What else ...
In your free time, you can relax, swim, do what you like, and find time to be creative (art, writing, music, etc.)
It would be ideal if you have a car, but we go into town 1-2x a week (Serta) for shopping and sometimes take day trips to explore, especially in search of ice cream :)
Mobile phone access means a 10 min walk uphill and WiFi is weak, intermittent.
