    Description

    Hello!

My name's Drew, and I'm working on creating a garden and some basic house projects in the unique costal town of Point Roberts, WA. It's a beachside cottage with waterfront views and beach access where you can hang out during your free time!

Point Roberts, WA is very unique. It's part of the USA, and the only way to enter is through Canada (google maps will show you the best :-). It's very simple, but you do need to cross the border from Canada and into the USA to arrive here, so please ensure you have the proper permit/visas to do so if your country requires. It's a very peaceful, beautiful place that has a laid back, artsy atmosphere with gorgeous ocean sunsets, which you can see from our second floor deck. There are great roads for biking, and tall evergreen forests you can hike around as well.

Tasks that we welcome help with include miscellaneous gardening, yard care, tasks like cleaning and organizing for the home. If you're excited about getting physical and are willing to get your hands dirty this could be a fun fit. No prior experience is required but openness to try new things is helpful!

This cottage is a 2min walk to the beach which you can see from the house and backyard. It has 3 bedrooms on the 2nd story, and 2 rooms on the main level that are being remodeled, which you can help with some light painting and get ready too!

Having a car is very helpful since the location is not public transport friendly. You don't need one, but might feel a little isolated. The house is walkable though to the small town with a grocery store and a couple small shops.

    About me and the Exchange

Workaway appeals to me as I myself have explored the world via wwoofing and exchanges and would like to now return the favor. I lived in Sydney, Australia for two years, and backpacked through New Zealand where I helped out at a bed and breakfast. I also lived in Lisbon for a year in 2020 and love learning about people from different backgrounds and cultures.

With my free time, I enjoy hiking, cooking, gardening, basketball, tennis, and yoga. Hannah and I are foodies, which is why the garden is a big passion project of ours. Exercise and overall physical and mental well being are also activities and habits we enjoy working on as people. Feel free to get in touch if you feel this workaway could be a fit :-).

    Thanks,
    Drew

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

As a part of this exchange, I'm happy to share what I can of the Pacific Northwest with you! You'll be walking distance from the beach for relaxing, and I'm working on getting kayak and paddleboards for workawayers to enjoy.

Having family style meals to learn more about your culture, and share mine as an American who has lived in Sydney and Lisbon are fun ways to get to know folks. If you like privacy and quiet too, we're happy to provide that space as well.

You'll get a chance to learn gardening skills, as well as other tasks in regards to caring for a home. We hope these skills you gain come in handy for whatever adventures come your way after this stay.

We'd be open to going on a hike or exploring the surrounding region if you'd like as well. We'll be focused on bringing this home back to life, but want to make sure your stay is a memorable one outside of the tasks you'll be helping with. Vancouver, BC is a great city to explore, and we'd be happy to provide tips or even venture to this vibrant city with ya.

  • Help

    Help

There are two main projects I have on this property. Outdoor gardening/landscaping as we build out a garden and
miscellaneous assistance with the home, such as yardwork, gardening, and outdoor organizing.

Open to anyone who's a quick learner and not afraid to be physical. From painting to digging holes to everything in between, with your help we can help bring this property back to life!

We'll of course be workawaying alongside you as it's a joint effort, but can also give you space to be independent as you'd like during projects too.

You can choose to help for 4 to 5 hours a day for 5 days a week or do full days and then take more days off to explore the beautiful Pacific Northwest as well. We are open to what works for you.

    Thanks!
    Drew

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You will be able to stay in the home, which has 5 total bedrooms. Your own private bedroom with a mattress is provided. If you're traveling with a partner, you would be able to share a room together. There are 3 bathrooms with 1 being fully usable now and 2 almost finished.

The home is functional, but humble as I work to improve it via DIY projects.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided. We enjoy cooking all types of food, and are happy to do either family style together or allow you your own time and privacy. Either works for us. Overall, the food will be wholesome, but please don't expect gourmet. You're welcome to cook any dishes too as we love learning about other cultures through food exchanges. I can help provide the groceries. Please let me know if you have any dietary restrictions.
