    Description

May 1-Oct 1(looking for volunteers that want to stay between two weeks and one month during that time period).

    Dear Workawayers,
we are the owners of a family-run hostel on the Dalmatia coast, located in a beautiful village between Omiš and Makarska, about 45 minutes south of Split.
We have 3 private rooms and a dorm room with 8 beds, a big kitchen, living room, a large terrace and rooftop overlooking the sea and mountains.
Apart from the beautiful scenery and some of the best beaches in walking distance, the hostel is loved for its vibe and meeting wonderful people from all around the world.

We provide free accommodation and during the season shared dinners. You will have plenty of free time to explore the area, enjoy the beach, connect with guests and your fellow Workawayers.

Looking forward to you joining our team,
Dean and Steffi with our two border collies Luna & Buddy

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

At our house Workawayers will get to know people from all around the world: other Workawayers, guests, Couchsurfers, pilgrims, hikers, cyclists, locals, our neighbors and friends and of course their hosts who are living and working with them every day. As we are a close community there is plenty of opportunity to interact, exchange and spend time with others: cooking together, going to the beach with each other, joining our day trips to the nearby towns, markets and sights and during our shared dinners as well as sitting, talking, playing and making music together on our big terrace.
We go on trips together with our Workawayers and guests every week to explore the beauty of the surrounding area. Everyone’s favorite is the Tuesday trip to the authentic farmers market in Zadvarje which is followed by a picnic with local food from the market and plenty of time to relax under the trees and go swimming in the river Cetina.
We always give our Workawayers the opportunities to join activities (such as rafting, hiking trips, boat trips) with our guests and most times they can go for free and share their experience with others.
Another cultural event are “Fishermen’s nights” in the neighboring towns we take our Workawayers to.
Workawayers can also organize their own trips and we will provide them with the information they need and helpful contacts.
During their working hours we can teach our Workawayers a variety of skills:
gardening, cooking, how to make different drinks/cocktails, how to use a professional coffee machine, how to interact with guests, how to organize activities as well as how to do small maintenance works (like painting, working with materials like wood and stone). We will always be there to teach, help and answer any questions.
We adjust to the Workawayers interests, personality and skill level and help them grow and have fun in what they do.

This host offers a language exchange
As we host a variety of Workawayers from different countries, we have a lively exchange of languages that all our volunteers can benefit from. With Dean being from Texas and Steffi from Germany, we are happy to share our languages with you, have conversations and teach you anything you would like to learn or practice. Of course, we can also assist you with the basics of the Croatian language as will our neighbors and local guests. We are constantly working on providing a place where our Workawayers and guests can be in contact with locals and exchange their knowledge about their home country, native language and traditions. Both sides really enjoy, embrace and profit from these interactions.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

    Accommodation will be in a shared room with other Workawayers (usually 3-6 Workawayers). The room has its own ensuite bathroom. You can use and enjoy all areas of the house: big and fully equipped kitchen, terrace, rooftop terrace, yoga studio, barbecue place; free laundry facilities; plenty of beach/swimming and snorkeling equipment you can use; free use of bicycles to explore the area; our Workawayers love the experience of sleeping under the stars on our rooftop terrace in the summer;
Living room with lots of games and art materials you can use; Workawayers also can pick/exchange second-hand clothes from our well-kept storage.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

You can get to Marušići from Split and Makarska by bus (getbybus has the bus schedule). If we are in town, of course we can pick you up as well :)

Split is the closest airport, but you can also fly into Zagreb, Zadar or Dubrovnik and take a bus to Split or Makarska from there.

There are plenty of interesting places to visit during your stay, a few of them are:
    - the city of Split (45 min from our place)
    - the pirate town Omiš (15 min), with lots of outdoor activities, zip-line, rafting, canyoning, hiking and rock-climbing
    - boat trips to the islands of Brač, Hvar and the Blue Cave
    - national parks: Krka, Plitvice
    - Dubrovnik (filming location of Game of Thrones)
    - Mostar (in Bosnia and Herzegovina),
    Kotor (in Montenegro)
    And many more :)

We have some of the most beautiful beaches in walking distance. The water is crystal clear and perfect for snorkeling. At night you can see fluorescent plankton in the water - there is always a group to go night swimming and experience this magic sight with.

Try local food: from Burek to Čevapćići!
If you are interested in how local olive oil or honey are made, we can connect you with local experts.

There is also plenty to do at the house:
painting, games, instruments, places to sunbathe and relax, try a new recipe, bake cookies, connect with your family and friends, …

Feel free to reach out to us with any questions you may have
