We (Swiss/Dutch couple with 2 small children) bought a beautiful and remote piece of land on the island of Vis 6 years ago, with the intention to build a sustainable home for our family. Our property is 1.5ha in size and located on the steep northwest side of the island. The only existing structures on the land are a 70sqm stone ruin and a cistern that we renovated last year. For the moment we call a beautiful 35sqm yurt our home:)
This side of the island has been abandoned more than 70 years ago and all that is left are a few ruins. All the terraces were once used to grow grapes but are now completely grown over by dense bush and pine forests. Obviously this means a lot of work clearing the land but also offers endless possibilities for creative solutions!
Last year we had great help from many workawayers from all over the globe and we hope to continue this way.
2019 we are planning to...
-build a stone house
-build a sauna
-start a food forest
-set up a greywater system
-clearing more land to establish a vineyard
-housesitter from mid November to mid of January
We are also looking for house sitters this winter starting mid of November until mid of January. We divide in two stretches of a bit more than 4 weeks.
First stretch is from the 15.11- 20.12
Second strech is from the 20.12-24.1.20

In general we are in need of people with building or gardening/permaculture skills. People who dont mind to get their hands dirty and work hard of course are always welcome as well!

You can bring your own tent, use our beautyful bell tent or sleep in our heated caravan. We have electricity and running water and on hot days even warm showers are no problem.
Vis is one of the most remote islands in Croatia and also regarded as one of the most beautyful in the Mediterranean. There are endless possibilities for swimming, kayaking, hiking and exploring the island.
However our location is remote and it takes a 40min walk (20min by car) to the next village and a 20min hike to the next beach. We usually drive every second or third day to Vis Town and off course we can give you a ride. Also pick up and drop offs are organised.
