Description
Hi, I'm James, I am 38 years old. I am an English man living in Central Portugal. I have been living here for about 4 years now. I live by myself with my 13 cats (I call them my little bastards).
15 years ago I was a Workaway-er myself. I did Workaway in Andalusia and Portugal. I enjoyed Portugal so much, that I moved here 10 years later.
I live on the edge of a small village, near Oliveira do Hospital. I live in a yurt and/or a caravan, depending on the time of the year.
I live off-grid on my land. Electricity comes from a solar panel and my water comes from a water mine. On my land I have already made a compost toilet and an outdoor shower.Types of help and learning opportunities

Workawayers experience living in Central Portugal and have the opportunity to discover this beautiful region. It's a chance to learn about the small village life. You can learn the Portuguese language by talking to my lovely neighbours and be emerged in the culture of a small village. You can learn a lot about living off grid and the challenges that it can bring.
Help
Around the land I need help with weeding, strimming (in spring), watering my vegetable garden (in summer). I also need help with clearing the land in general.
Around my yurt, I am building a moat with a drawbridge and I can use some help with that. In the future I would like to build a greenhouse.
I am a carnivore, I love a good steak. My cooking is average. If you like to cook for me and yourself, it will be part of the 5 hours voluntary work.Languages spoken
English: Fluent
Portuguese: BeginnerAccommodation
When you come and stay with me, you will get your own caravan. The caravan is furnished with a double bed. The caravan will have a battery for lights. Charging your mobile phone will be possible in the other caravan. If you want to cook for yourself, you can use the kitchen in the other caravan.
What else ...
I am a hard worker, but sometimes I don't have a lot of motivation to start something new. From my own experience I learned that I don't like to work alone all the time. That is why I am looking for hard working people that are very motivated to help me around the land.
In your spare time you can walk around the village or chill out in my selfmade hammock. We can go together to some places in the area, like the Serra da Estrela mountain or to a refreshing river beach.A little more information
