Description
Our home is a unique 100-acre off-grid property nestled beneath Mount Blackheath, in the heart of the Blue Mountains, around two hours from Sydney. Surrounded by native bushland, open grasslands and spectacular escarpments, it is a place where nature sets the pace.
The property is powered by solar energy, our water comes from a natural spring, and we share the land with kangaroos, wombats, echidnas, countless native birds and five dogs.
This is not a commercial farm but a lifestyle property. Our projects are all about caring for and gradually improving this beautiful place, creating an environment where both native wildlife and people can thrive.
We enjoy sharing what we have learnt about living off-grid, caring for the Australian bush and creating a peaceful mountain retreat. We hope you will leave with wonderful memories, new skills and a genuine appreciation of this very special place.
If you love nature, don't mind getting your hands dirty and enjoy peaceful surroundings, you will feel right at home here. -

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
One of the things we enjoy most about hosting is meeting people from around the world and sharing this very special place with them.
Over the years we have hosted a number of wonderful volunteers from different countries, many of whom have become good friends. We love hearing your stories, learning about your culture and sharing ours.
We are always happy to share what we have learnt about living off-grid, bush regeneration, native plants, sustainable property management and caring for a large rural property. We also believe that cultural exchange goes both ways, and we always enjoy learning something new from the people who stay with us.
In your free time you might:
- Explore the property and surrounding bushland.
- Visit the famous Blue Mountains lookouts, bushwalking tracks and charming mountain villages.
- Watch kangaroos grazing at sunset.
- Enjoy spectacular night skies.
- Relax with a book and simply enjoy the peace and quiet.
Whether you are looking to learn new skills, experience Australian country life or simply spend time surrounded by nature, we hope you will leave with wonderful memories, new friendships and a genuine connection to this very special place. -
Help
Every day is a little different, which is part of the fun.
Most of the help is outdoors and may include gardening, landscaping, weeding, spreading mulch, moving soil, planting trees, collecting fallen branches, bush regeneration, collecting and stacking firewood, and general property maintenance. From time to time, there may also be indoor tasks around the house.
Projects vary with the season, the weather and what is happening around the property, so no two days are exactly the same.
Some days we will be working together, while on other days we may be busy with other projects or commitments. For that reason, this opportunity is best suited to someone who is happy to do tasks independently, can stay motivated without close supervision, and enjoys taking initiative.
No previous experience is necessary—just a positive attitude, a reasonable level of fitness and a willingness to have a go. -

Accommodation
You will have your own private, fully furnished studio apartment attached to our home, complete with two comfortable single beds, your own kitchen and bathroom, offering plenty of privacy and independence.
Large floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the garden, and during the cooler months you can enjoy the warmth of a wood fireplace.
The accommodation is best suited to one person or two friends travelling together.
We provide the ingredients for you to prepare your own breakfasts, lunches and dinners, so you are free to cook whenever it suits you. From time to time we also enjoy sharing a meal, a barbecue or a coffee together, but there is absolutely no expectation—we respect everyone's personal space and routines. -
What else ...
• Smoking is permitted outdoors only.
• Dog lovers are strongly preferred. The property is home to three English Cocker Spaniels, a Whippet and a Maremma. The Cockers consider every visitor a potential best friend and may lick you to death if you let them.
• Australia is home to snakes, large spiders and other magnificent creepy crawlies. They are simply part of Australian life. If you're terrified of them, you may want to think twice before applying.
• We also have two rental cottages on the property, which help support its ongoing development. Maintaining a peaceful atmosphere for our guests is important, so we ask everyone to respect our guests' privacy and keep noise to a minimum, particularly in the evenings and early mornings.
• We are 11 km from Blackheath village. There is no public transport to the property. We usually provide pick-up and drop-off from Blackheath train station. Having your own vehicle is helpful but not essential.
• Initial stays are usually one week, with longer stays available by mutual agreement.
• All overseas helpers are required to have current comprehensive travel insurance for the duration of their stay.
• We are unable to provide visa sponsorship or 88 day or 179 day visa sign-off. -
