We are a friendly family welcoming Workaway helpers to our bamboo forest near the beach on the Sunshine Coast.
Vacancies currently from the 17th November onwards for 2 weeks or longer.
We are Angela, husband David, and son Ed. We are focusing on native revegetation, growing vegetables, fruits and bamboo, and keeping heritage poultry. We are in transition to permaculture and organic principles.
Currently, we have tractor driving, excavating, vehicle maintenance, dragonfruit, planting, woodworking, and bamboo projects so particularly welcome people with these skills and interests.
We are looking to host Workawayers to help us with any of our projects which include:
- animal care including ducks, hens, and quail
- carpentry projects such as building a "microbat hotel"
- construction projects, including our new developments
- engineering, for example, dam creation, and new rainwater irrigation system from our dam to vegetable seedlings
- gardening including bamboo propagation, composting, harvesting, planting, mulching, strimming, watering, in our orchard, veggie patches, and new dragonfruit plantation
- Land For Wildlife work, encouraging more native wildlife including green tree frogs, microbats, Eastern Grey kangaroos, and birds, native tree planting
- maintenance including painting and repairs
- mowing with either our ZeroTurn mower or tractor slasher
- motor mechanics to maintain our equipment and vehicles
- online marketing
It helps if you have a driving licence and experience in one or more of the above.
There are three properties at the park: we live in Bamboo House; Orchard Cottage is for our Workaway helpers; the Studio is lived in by our son James and partner Angel.
We provide a shared home-cooked lunch Monday-Thursday, and evening dinner on Sundays, at Bamboo House.
We also provide food for the rest of your time, which you prepare yourself in the Orchard Cottage kitchen.
If you want to help with cooking and housekeeping in the properties that's always welcome although most of the time you are on the property working outside.
There's also the option to work with us on our digital marketing projects, which can include paid traffic generation, social media content, videography, email and messenger communications, or even blockchain development.
Our days start at 7.30am with a mid-morning break for morning tea then finishing by lunchtime. Working hours are normally 5 hours per day, finishing at 10.30am on Fridays so that you have an hour or two for animal care and watering one day of the weekend.
After lunch, the rest of the day is yours, apart from the occasional "putting the chickens to bed" rota.
We appreciate the help!
This is off-grid living with our own electricity generation, water, and septic, so you'll learn about living sustainably.
The nearby towns of Yandina and Coolum Beach, with beautiful surf beach and swimming, are both about ten minutes by car and we can give lifts. From there, you can take buses to explore the whole of the coast. We can also provide lifts when we're going to different places and possibly the use of a vehicle.
The farm is about 10 minutes to the nearest beach and 25 minutes to Noosa Heads. There are also stunning national parks, waterfalls, mountains and climbing nearby.
The nearest bus station is Coolum Beach and the nearest train stations are Nambour or Yandina - all are 10/15 minutes away. The nearest airport is Sunshine Coast which is about 15 minutes away, or if you're flying internationally you'll come to Brisbane Airport and then take a bus/train to the nearest station. We can pick you up when you first arrive, and take you when you leave.
It's ideal if you arrive on a Sunday and stay for two weeks or more. Departure days are usually on Saturdays. These arrival and departure days can be flexible.
We look forward to hearing from you and wish you happy travels.

Our family is originally from Devon in the southwest of England, where we ran Crealy Great Adventure Parks and Resorts. We have lived on the Sunshine Coast since 2011. We like time in the country, going to the beach and national parks. We love meeting positive people from all over the world :)
We are in transition to farming and gardening in line with organic, biodynamic, permaculture, and regenerative agriculture principles, building soil and sequestering carbon. We use a lot of woodchip as mulch, using a tractor, or quad and trailer, or wheelbarrows, and we need help with this.
There is a sizeable and varied fruit orchard with more than 100 trees and over 1000 bamboo planted, which we need help maintaining. We are also making more vegetable beds to increase how much we are eating from the farm, planting more trees, and propagating more bamboo. Workawayers also help look after the chickens, quail, and ducks.
We like Workawayers to post photos on social media if you can - this could be of the work you're doing, the animals, the wildlife ... as we haven't been good at doing this ourselves and want to improve this :)
If you have online skills in content/paid traffic generation (FB, Insta, YT, Google) there may also be the possibility for you to help us with our online business.
We recommend bringing sunscreen, a hat, waterproof boots, and waterproof clothing if you have them, otherwise we can help as we have a certain amount of PPE gear.
We have three houses on the property, including one for Workawayers.
The Workaway's Orchard Cottage has four bedrooms, three with bunk beds of which two have double beds under and a single over. If two people use the double bed, there won’t be anyone else sharing the room with you.
You can also camp or park your own campervan in our grounds if you wish.
Orchard Cottage has its own kitchen, bathroom, and laundry facilities. It is your responsibility to keep the Cottage clean and tidy, and to give it a thorough deep clean every Saturday.
There is also a large office space you can use with wifi, a library, games, and a pool table.
We provide your lunch during work days and normally have a special meal cooked together on a Sunday evening. The rest of the time we provide you with food - you usually come to the farmers' market and local supermarket with us on Saturday mornings to choose your own food, plus there is produce from the orchard and paddock including free range eggs, fruit, citrus, tomatoes, potatoes, herbs.
We can give lifts some afternoons and weekends to the local beaches, hinterland, and Noosa, when we're going that way.
Our farm is between two mountains and close to the beach. There are many lovely beaches, country towns, national parks and waterfalls around, great rock climbing, watersports, horseriding and hiking.
