    Description

We're a friendly Aussie couple who live off grid in rural Australia. We're in the process of building a permaculture farm on our 360 acre property in the Australian bush.
We love to share stories around the campfire and can share what we know about the plants and wildlife, off-grid set up of plumbing, electricity, solar, water collection, organic food gardening, operating machines and power tools etc.
We've hosted travellers for over 15 years in various places through our days living on a sailing yacht, in the city, and now sharing our journey as we learn to be farmers.
We enjoy the new perspectives and ideas travellers bring, and hope we can inspire one or two people to live in a more sustainable way in nature.
Our local area has waterfalls and national parks, forest and farms, and historical country towns.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We always share meals together and love to try a traditional meal from your hometown.
There's often an outdoor fire on in the evening, so lots of big conversations happen around a fire under the stars.
We're right into permaculture and organics and enjoy discussing these philosophies.
We've done everything ourselves so we have a special set of skills and knowledge about setting up an off-grid life from nothing.

  • Help

    Help

We find it best to host people who are active, mature, can follow instructions and work well without supervision.
We're happy to teach anything so no particular experience is necessary.
Anyone who is enthusiastic and interested in trying out new things is perfect!
The help varies a lot. We might need help building, gardening, planting trees, digging dams, collecting firewood or some cleaning and cooking.
We work from home so are never far away, but might need you to do some tasks by yourself.
There are lovely friendly dogs here too, so you will need to be comfortable around dogs. They're very playful.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We are quite remote, about 50km from the nearest shops, so if you have your own transport it's best.
However we can pick up and drop off from the train station as well for anyone staying 5 or more days.
We don't really have any rules except be a nice person ! We're pretty relaxed and enjoy a drink or two.
Smoking is okay as long as you're outside.
We've hosted about 50 people over the last decade so we know it's best to go with the flow and everyones different.

Telstra network has good reception, enough for virtuall meetings. I work from home and have no issues with speeds or connection as long as you have boost, Aldi mobile or Telstra SIM. Any Optus or Optus networks no good here.
