    Description

Dear musicians, carpenters, woodworkers, chefs, forest people, seafarers and human beings, you are warmly invited to visit our healing sanctuary surrounded by the wavy ocean and a lushy forest.

My name is Jakob and I live on a little island in the Finnish archipelago. After some years running around in the world I have landed at the place where I started and feel the calling to build something beautiful here. I am fortunate to be able to stay at a cabin that belongs to my family but has been in very little use the last years so now I am slowly renovating and transforming it into an off-grid farm. The vision is to create a space for people to heal and remember, where life can flourish and true joy can arise spontaneously.

I envision this place to be a bridge between the modern way of thinking and an indigenous way of living life. I am not in that sense ’indigenous’ but I have had meaningful encounters with indigenous people across the world and this island is where I would say I feel most at home since I spent the summers as a child growing up here. I am interested in shamanism and ancestral spirituality and also practise yoga. I am inviting people who would like to learn more about their relationship to the world and how to live a good life here on earth, to join me and study together. I am learning everyday from the forest and the sea, the animals, the fire and the wind.

I offer workawayers the possibility to learn about nature, the plants and animals in this region, fishing, bio-construction, the finnish and swedish language, and mostly just an opportunity to live in the wilderness for a bit and experience a simple way of living. I can also share yoga classes and sauna healing. I like to play music and we often sit around the fire in the evening.

This place is perfect for people who like to live with nature, who are interested in spirituality, who are grounded on earth but aware that there is a sky, who like simplicity and autenticity, who prefer the truth over lies, who like to do meaningful work, who like natural unprocessed foods and people who understand that we are all co-creators.

The weather varies from super calm and sunny to very windy and stormy so be prepeared for all kinds of weather. This is not a place for people who want comfort and city luxuries. There is no running water and we bathe in the ocean or in the sauna with rain water. The sauna is generally heated a few times per week.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Workawayers have the opportunity to get a glimpse of the traditional Finnish culture aswell as learn from my experiences exploring different cultures around the world. The place is located 20 minutes away by boat from the nearest road accessible by car and there is a village there with a small shop, a café, a gathering place for village festivities (mainly during the midsummer celebration), and a lot of small houses. My grandmother grew up there. Sometimes I go there to visit family, go to sell at the market or go grocery shopping. Workawayers can sometimes join me during these occasions to get a tour of the area. In the free time you can explore the forest, go for a little boat ride, swim in the ocean, and contemplate life. There are a lot of things to do and beautiful places to visit so your imagination is the limit to what you can experience. As I am a traveller myself I love to learn from people with different cultural backgrounds and share stories and skills.

    Help

On the island we work together. There are many projects I would like to do so any kind of help is appreciated. The tasks at the moment are mainly cutting firewood, some forest/woodwork, food preparation and general help around the house and on the island. Workawayers are welcome to share their skills and talents.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

At the moment there are two cabins on the island and a third one is under construction. There is space for a few people to live here. Workawayers will be living in one of the cabins and depending on how many people there are you might be sharing the space with other people. There is also the possibility of sleeping in a tent in the summer. I offer food and a kitchen to cook in. We usually eat breakfast, lunch and dinner together but depending on the day sometimes we may eat sepearatly. You are welcome to bring your own food and also share with the other people living here. The local cousine consists mainly of blueberry pie, mushroom stew, fish and potatoes but we also buy groceries at the store to cook some delicious meals.

    What else ...

It takes around 30 minutes to get to the harbourby car from Porvoo and from there another 20 mintues by boat to reach the island. There are buses going close to the harbour and from there I can pick you up with car. I live in a quite relaxed snd simple way but I value good work and good rest afterwards. I try to balance work and free time and ideally we would find a suitable rythm together. This is a spiritual place so we try to maintain a healthy and supportive atmosphere. Heavy alcohol drinking is discouraged. Acoustic music and authentic conversations are apprecited.

Ideally you are in a stage in your life where you can dedicate yourself to be fully present here. Based on experience it can become difficult if you expect to go to many events in the city all the time or need to charge a lot of electronic equipment. I do have some solar panels here but they are just enough to charge our phones and occasionally some batteries for the drill etc.
