    Description

We live in a little house surrounded by a garden where we grow vegatables and we collect fruit, close to the beatiful village of Apricale in western Liguria, Italy: in this area many terraced gardens have been abandoned. We are trying to rebuild part of the dry-stone walls of our garden and taking care of the wood around. In the surroundings there are beautiful places to trek and to enjoy nature. The house can only be reached on foot by a hilly path in 15 minutes. The house has only an outside toilet and an outdoor shower without hot water (although there is a solar heated bag available). A few minutes walk away there is a river. Minimun stay one week.
Unfortunately, the town hall of our little village cannot support visa applications.

There are three main aspects that make a stay in Casa quite interesting: the first concerns the village of Apricale, which is one example of "fragile territory" which has been able to survive as a community after the widespread abandonment of small villages during the 60-80ies by including foreigners as new part of the community (in Apricale now live people from more than 20 different countries). The second regards the traditional terrace farming, which requires a different approach in the management of water and in general maintainance. The third is more gastronomic and is about cooking with grown and wild vegetables and preserving summer fruits and vegetables for the winter.

During the time off it is possible to walk to the villages nearby (Apricale, Perinaldo, Isolabona, Dolceacqua...), or to take a bus to the sea-coast. There are also beautiful streams to take a bath (Rocchetta Nervina is not far).
