Description
We moved onto a little lifestyle farm just out of Carterton, in the Wairarapa (1.5hrs North of Wellington) in 2022. We live with one of our teenage sons (the other one is travelling in Europe). We work part time. My husband Saali is a music teacher and musician and I'm a strategy and policy consultant with a focus on the environment. The rest of the time we try to grow and prepare food we grow here on our 10 hectares.
I'm originally from Germany and we love the cultural exchange of hosting visitors from around the world.
We can do with a hand most of the time.
This summer we have a separate guest room with a double bed and a bathroom available.
A car is handy, but we can always drop you off at the railway station if you're traveling by train or want to mix rural and city experiences.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Happy to have you join family life with a range of experience of outdoor and indoor work. We love living rurally but feel connected to Wellington and the arts and culture there. We are a German-Kiwi family and have done a bit of traveling.

Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.

Help
We are managing vegetable gardens and our orchard. We've got a range of animals: chickens, sheep, cattle as well as dogs and cats that we can always use help with.
We are also distilling traditional spirits from surplus fruit.

We'd be cooking for everyone and you'd be welcome to cook for us. We tend to eat dinner together.
What else ...
The Wairarapa is full of awesome nature walks like those at Mount Holdsworth and coastal trips for fishing and surfing. Wellington is a cool little capital, accessible by train.
