    Description

    I professionally deal with environmental assessments, especially regarding digital prospecting and terrain characterization, as well as techniques for processing georeferenced data on shareable digital platforms.
    I am also passionate about the sea, sailing and scuba diving, qualified as Dive Master (with specialization in deep diving and underwater rescue), as well as Underwater Technical Operator.
    Based on my professional experiences and my passions, I would like to try to develop a project for an innovative "Start Up", where the idea of a more sustainable and more rewarding economic development for the territory is combined with the desire to protect the marine environment.
    This project, through scientific research and the development of new techniques, would like to be able to create a virtuous and profitable economic circuit from measures aimed at addressing the environmental damage caused by climate change, especially with regard to the proliferation of invasive marine species.
    My interest is mainly focused on the study of the reproductive biology of sea urchins.
    In fact, in some contexts, the excessive proliferation of these animals, often triggered by water heating, can cause very serious environmental damage, but, at the same time, they could constitute an important economic resource (through the marketing of the roe for food purposes), if the collection was managed with an innovative and sustainable approach.
    Indispensable, prior to any possible production phase, is a research and study activity, which I would like to conduct using a sailing boat as an operational platform, structured along the following main lines:
    - Conduct studies on the reproductive biology of sea urchins, in order to develop their sustainable exploitation for food purposes.
    - Explore innovative techniques for monitoring and mapping the territory, as well as for the development of digital models of the seabed, shareable on GIS platforms, so that the research activity can be rationalized and coordinated through the establishment of an interactive network.

    The boat is currently based in Sardinia, in Arbatax. The activity will be conducted from May/June to September, in an itinerant manner, along the eastern coast of the island and the south of Corsica.
    My objective would be to deepen a study and knowledge path, involving as many people as possible, especially young people interested in the context and, enriched by the comparison and maturation of mutual experiences, to create a pool of trained and available people, who can then support the entrepreneurial development of the project.

  • Help

    Help

    I am looking for people who can collaborate in the development of this project, helping me in the preparation and management of the boat and in the research activity.
    This activity would essentially be conducted by exploring the seabed, monitoring and analyzing samples, processing and evaluating the collected data.
    Could be useful, but not essential, relevant specific experience in the various sectors in question, especially:
    - competence in marine biology, even better with research experience;
    - skills in using GIS software;
    - diving skills, even better with experience in the use of NITROX;
    - competence in the management of a sailing boat and its components, also with maintenance capacity;
    In any case, even people who do not have specific experience are still welcome, as long as they have an interest in the topic, resourcefulness and a desire to learn, who appreciate any future job development in this area and are available to continuously dedicate several months to the activity.

    Accommodation

    The boat I currently have available is a "One Tonner", an old racing boat built as a "One Off" based on a Vallicelli design, with which for several years, with my fourteen year old daughter, I have been sailing around the Mediterranean.
    It is a very sporty boat, good for experience and is a lot of fun, brilliant, exciting and educational; However, it has a certain accommodation capacity, although somewhat spartan.
    On board we have 6 bunks, a small kitchen and a very small bathroom. There is a shower, exclusively external (in the cockpit) and without hot water.
    The boarding conditions, it must be said, are extremely basic in terms of comfort and the maneuvers and management of the boat in general are quite physically demanding, however with my daughter we have adapted very well since she was very little. During the summer period we usually also hosted friends, without major problems.
    All expenses relating to the management of the boat (fuel, moorings, maintenance, etc.) will obviously be borne by me; we will only share food expenses. Each person will be responsible for travel costs to reach the embarkation point or return from the disembarkation point, as well as personal expenses.
    Food expenses will be shared among everyone.
    The activity will not exceed 3 hours a day, 5 days a week.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

    Participation in the research activity is not to be understood as a work commitment. Everyone is free to collaborate as they wish, as well as with navigation maneuvers and on-board duties.
    So there will be time to enjoy the natural beauty of the coast we will visit, as well as a chance to also carry out excursions inland, to the points of greatest interest. Everything will obviously have to be coordinated with the needs of navigation, especially in terms of safety.
    What I would mainly like to get is being able to create a sort of community around the project, in which everyone is free to participate according to their abilities and interests.
