  • Description

You will have great views of the Li River and the Karst landscape at either destination.

The international Youth Hostel is a charity organization.

Welcome to the Guilin area - an area famous for the Karst landscape and Li-river scenery. We have two hostels - one in Guilin, a great city in the Guangxi province and the other one in the Yangshuo area, in a small town called Xingping. Both hostels are members of Hostelling International. The type of guests who stay at either of our places are those individuals who really like travelling all over the world: South America, Middle east, Europe and Africa. We like Taoist, Buddhism and all the Chinese traditional culture. Come to volunteer and expereince the scenery that is mentioned in ancient Chinese classical literature.

The environment of the hostels and the surrounding areas is relatively relaxed. In Gulin, we are located right next to the Rong lake, the famous scenery of two rivers and four lakes in Guilin. The area is great for those individuals who wish for Chinese culture, while still being near to some western culture. In Xingping, our hostel is located next to the Li River. Many tourists come to the town to see the legendary picture on the 20 yuan note. In the rural town you will be able to experience farmers life first hand in the daily market. Around 8pm the town is fairly quiet, leaving a relaxing atmosphere.

    About Hostelling International:

Hostelling International is a worldwide network of Not-for-Profit Youth Hostel Associations
Hostelling International (HI) is a charity that manages a federation of not-for-profit youth hostel associations. Our Youth Hostel Associations such as YHA, Stayokay and DJH combined provide a network of hostels in more than 80 countries.

We believe that exploration and travel lead to a better understanding of other cultures, and in turn that creates a peaceful, smarter, and more tolerant world. This is and has been our mission for almost 100 years.

We operate ‘for good and not-for-profit’ which means your stay should be cheaper while contributing to something amazing — any surplus of funds is reinvested in affordable hostelling and not shareholders.

    Our mission is:
To promote the education of all young people of all nations, but especially young people of limited means, by encouraging in them a greater knowledge, love and care of the countryside and an appreciation of the cultural values of towns and cities in all parts of the world, and as ancillary thereto to provide hostels or other accommodation in which there shall be no distinction of race, nationality, colour, religion, sex, class, or political opinions and thereby to develop a better understanding of their fellow men, both at home and abroad.

  • Help

The schedule will be adjusted according to the tourist season.

Some tasks include: (1) Creating and leading tours for guests. Some examples include, but are not limited to: Bicycle trips, hiking, mountain climbing and cave exploring; (2) Assisting the front desk staff in explaining our hostel’s facilities and services; (3) Providing help and responsible answers to questions from guests; (4) We have an public benefit library for Xingping local kids where you may tell a kids story and teach English to the local kids; or (5) Doing publicity work, through websites or social networking website, posting fun pictures and impressions of our hostel.

It is better if you speak Chinese so you can chat with the guests, but English is okay too if you are not Chinese. Many Chinese people are happy to practice their English with foreigners!

We are looking forward to your stay with us!
