We are Joan and Elena 😊
We’re a couple living between nature and creativity in the beautiful region of La Garrotxa, Catalonia. We love traveling, sports, community life, reading, and spending time with people from different cultures. We've spent years hosting travelers through Workaway and building strong connections with many of them — it’s been a beautiful part of our lives and one we’re deeply grateful for.
We’re now starting a very personal and exciting new chapter: restoring our private countryside home, a 17th-century farmhouse tucked into the heart of Alta Garrotxa, surrounded by forest, silence, and the peaceful rhythm of rural life. This is not a business or commercial project — it’s our future home, and we’re happy to share this process of transition with people who enjoy a slow and meaningful way of living.

You’ll be immersed in a truly local rural Catalan experience, in a place where people still live close to nature. We’ll share our knowledge about restoration, living off-grid, rural life and starting projects from scratch. You'll get to know the amazing region Ripollès, with hikes, skiing, and fascinating local history—refugee trails, Roman roads, and more. Plus, you'll be connected to a small community of travelers and creatives in our coliving nearby.
Help
We’re looking for help with daily life in and around the house, as well as creative projects:
- Garden tasks: doing woodwork/firewood
- Cooking and sharing meals
- Keeping the space cozy and alive through presence and shared care
- light maintenance, such as painting walls only where they are damaged or very dirty, not full renovations.
We love having people who can contribute both practically and creatively, helping the house and community thrive.

Accommodation
You’ll stay in a spacious and cozy room in our coliving. With incredible views and antique wooden ceilings. You’ll be part of a community of residents who telework and run their own projects, so you’ll have opportunities to connect, share experiences, and collaborate. There’s a peaceful atmosphere, birdsong, and pure stars at night, while still having access to internet and workspace when you need it.
What else ...
The house is 1 hour and 30 minutes by car from Barcelona, but you can also get here by train from Barcelona to Ripoll. From Ripoll (just 15–20 minutes away), we’re happy to pick you up by car. Another option is the bus from Barcelona to Camprodon, which is even closer — just a 5-minute drive from the house, and we can also pick you up there.
In your free time, you can explore nearby natural pools,ski station, hike through ancient forests, or visit charming villages like Camprodon, Sant Pau de Segúries, or Sant Joan de les Abadesses. It’s the perfect place to slow down, reconnect with nature, and enjoy a simpler rhythm.
As a bonus, you’ll be living at our coliving space, located just 10 minutes away by car. There you’ll find fiber internet, cozy communal areas, and an open-minded community of travelers, creatives, and digital nomads.
Please note: this is not part of the volunteering — there’s no help needed at the coliving, it's simply a space you’re gonna be living if you'd like to connect, work online, or be around others for a while.
The nearest village is Sant Pau de Segúries (5 minutes by bike).
