Min stay requested: at least 3 weeks

  • Description

As of November 1st, 2020 Costa Rica has reopened its borders (via air travel) to all countries in the world, as long as travelers meet the following requirements:

    1) Fill out the electronic epidemiological HEALTH PASS form, available at

    2) Traveler’s Medical Insurance: This can be either an international policy or one purchased via Costa Rica’s government through the National Insurance Institute (INS)

**While Costa Rica's government has lifted the negative Covid-19 test result requirements to enter the country, for the safety and well-being of all travelers, we are still encouraging a negative Covid-19 test result to be taken/submitted prior to arriving at camp. Details of these protocols/suggestions can be provided if you end up deciding to join us!

If you have any questions whatsoever, please reach out to us and we can provide information on the details and any updated travel/border protocols.

**In regards to the design of the camp/safety/the current global situation: We are located in the middle of nature on a large landmass and nearly all accommodations/shelter are open air. It is important to note that while we have proper sanitary guidelines in place within the grounds, the camp is naturally designed to allow for as much space as you need/are comfortable with. If you prefer to bring your own camping gear for additional safety measures, we support that as well!

We are currently able to take in a select amount of travelers, as we will be abiding by local rules. While the beaches, restaurants and establishments are opening up in town, our kitchen is still operating for those in camp and providing the standard two meals per day mentioned below.

**If you have any questions whatsoever regarding any of the current rules and guidelines in place within Costa Rica, please reach out to us and let us know!

Our Surf Camp is located in the jungles of Tamarindo, Costa Rica, and a short ride to Playa Tamarindo beach -- We provide a unique opportunity to experience the authentic Costa Rican way of life -- Through daily surfing, camping, yoga, remote beach and waterfall excursions, among countless other activities, our surf camp serves as a foundation to connect with yourself, other adventurous travelers, and Costa Rica's vast and extraordinary offerings of nature and wildlife.

The idea is to create a fun, energetic atmosphere full of adventures and unforgettable memories, while simultaneously being in harmony with the environment and culture of Costa Rica. To create this atmosphere, we are looking for open-minded volunteers who will be a constant positive and valuable contribution to our operational team.

We were recognized by Workaway, among their 25,000 hosts, as "Host of the Month" in June 2016! You can read the interview they did with us about our volunteer program on Workaway's "Host of the Month" section of their website's Blog, by clicking the badge on our profile, or by Googling the title. It is titled: "Living In a Surf Camp In Costa Rica"!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We employ a large number of local employees, ranging from team memebers, to our chefs, drivers, maintenance, tour guides, custodial and laundry services, and things such as having local fruit and vegetable vendors set up in camp.

Both what a traveler can benefit from and learn at our Workaway from a cultural exchange standpoint can come in the form of meshing human connection and merging cultures. We often times have over 20+ countries represented in camp, and we encourage all to share their culture, passions, and talents with one another via workshops/classes.

From a local cultural exchange standpoint, our relationships with nearby farms, schools, families, and organizations are beneficial to the surrounding community. Throughout the year, we offer opportunities to do local farm trips/exchanges, language classes and efforts with local children, beach cleanups, teaching classes at nearby trade schools, among other goodwill endeavors. As we continue to develop, these opportunities to give back to the local community become more fruitful.

We offer two tiers of volunteer options:

    A) Qualified Volunteer: In exchange for accommodations and food, two meals a day (breakfast & dinner), you will provide a specific professionally-skilled trade. While we are open-minded to accepting other skilled trades, we are looking for volunteers with the following skills set : Experienced Social Media manager (Beginning immediately), Surf Instructor (Beginning middle December), Yoga Instructor (Beginning immediately), Experienced Photographer (Beginning early December), and Experienced Videographer (Beginning middle December), Artist/Painter (EarlyMiddle December).

Your inquiry into this volunteer option will be carefully reviewed, and if accepted, you will potentially be asked to Skype so we can discuss the expected contributions further.

While we do all we can to determine a Volunteer's qualifications prior to arrival, once accepted as a Qualified Volunteer, you will be required to undergo a one week trial period (meals included) your first week in camp, in which you simply exhibit your skill set and enthusiasm, to confirm your suggested capabilities.

A Qualified Volunteer can expect to be a large part of our day-to-day operations, and ultimately the entire camp's development (around an average of 2-3 hours a day/5 days a week)!

    B) General Volunteer: While this volunteer program isn't as focused on one specific skill set like the Qualified Volunteer option is, your contributions to the team are as essential to the camp's atmosphere, togetherness, and prosperity. In exchange for accommodations (not food), you will help with general, day-to-day tasks. These general tasks can include: cleaning general areas, art projects, construction team, gardening, surf equipment maintenance, and miscellaneous tasks that help see the camp flourish at its optimal capacity. While you will never help more than 15 hours a week, these tasks will typically take up just 10-12 hours of your week. Because of our location in the jungle of Costa Rica, the nearest food options are around a 30-35 minute walk (or 5 minute shuttle/cab) or there is the option of a meal plan within the camp.

-- Please let us know which option you are interested in, and we will promptly respond back with our availability, camp FAQ's, and any further necessary information. --
