my name is Basoq
I am a dreamer and I believe in you.
I have made several projects such as tree house projects, agriculture, cultural exchange and English education in places such as Palopo, Toraja, Masamba and Sorowako in the province of South Sulawesi, Indonesia.
I am currently monitoring the activities of some of these projects that are already self-contained and open to bring in volunteers, you can see it on this website. Search for projects in ‘Palopo, Toraja, Masamba and Sorowako in the province of South Sulawesi, Indonesia.’ in Workaway.
Currently I am very open for those of you who want to explore the Region of Sulawesi, which is famous as the island that has a large variety of ethnic groups, who all have different languages, architecture and cultures, who all live on one big island called Sulawesi Island.
I am still actively inviting people to help improve social and environmental conditions and enjoy our world.
Many activities are related to nature conservation and English language education and basic Indonesian conversations for volunteer friends who come. Through language exchange we can learn together. My place is a good choice for you to visit if it is your first visit to Indonesia. If you want to travel somewhere during your stay I am more than willing to advise you the best ways to get to your destination and offer some suggestions.
If you want to know more about Sulawesi’s’ nature and our way of life, I need more help to share ideas and experiences to make the best for our small world in Sulawesi for generations today and the future. I am very open and grateful for any project ideas you may have while you are here. Something we can start and do together or helping other projects.
When you come we will not stay in one place for long time. We will visit different areas. Unless there is an activity we become involved in that takes a long time to finish.

This project is an opportunity to learn about the many ethnic groups in Sulawesi island, and immerse yourself in their culture. You can learn about the traditional cultures and art forms.
You will live in a traditional Indonesian area, we ask you to respect our local culture and get dress appropriately. The appropriateness of clothes depends on the culture and environment of the people in that area. For example wearing shorts to the knee and a top that covers your shoulders in the Muslim areas while a sleeveless shirt in the river and mountains can be accepted.
Looking forward to see you soon in our place!!
We know that you want to discover a lot about our way of living. This a cultural exchange, of course we want to learn about your culture, and you will learn about ours. Then if you want, you can learn how to prepare our food. Sharing all moments of our daily life will permit you to be in the heart of Indonesian culture. We will bring you to surrounding areas, cities, and some natural places. As well you will be out of touristic trails.
For example : waterfalls, typical markets and many many others…
Maybe you will find something new about yourself or new inspirations by living in touch with nature and the environment and sharing your time with new people and traditional cultures.
The activity begins after breakfast Our wish is that the volunteers are happy to contribute to the project – the ideas they bring, The working day starts when you are ready (after coffee and breakfast) and goes until you have finished your project (which may take days and that's ok too) . The project is going on the whole day while taking turns and with a lot of small coffee breaks. At the moment all meals are shared. We are preparing and eating the food together as well as going to the local market to buy the ingredients, which is a nice trip! The preparation of the food is a great chance to learn the Indonesian cooking methods. Our projects are located in various regions in Sulawesi.
Not every project is the same and they are continuously being created and improved. We want everyone’s input and would like to make good ideas become a great project.
In the project in Masamba, eventually we hope to feed everyone from the garden but we are still in seeding phase. If you have any gardening knowledge to share or seeds that will grow in tropical climates (summer crops) please bring them along. We would love to grow an international garden! When it’s too hot – a swim in the river is always fun and cools you down.
You can start your daily work whenever you wake up even though we might be still sleeping because we are working on organisation and art projects in the evening. We are all working 2-3 hours per day and have two days off per week. Besides the work we go camping, fishing, swimming and do whatever we feel like. If possible; we would be happy if you could bring the flag of your country, English books (any kinds as we want to make a library), some seeds, or art supplies as a gift which is symbolic of your stay here. In this new project we are running a few activities, English classes, collecting inorganic trash. We are looking forward to working together and we really encourage originality and new ideas that we can use to create a brighter future together!
The meals are shared.
Either a home stay in a house on the project site, or with the team in alternative housing like tents. We share food and household tasks such as cooking and cleaning. Later, we hope to be self sustainable from our organic farm and hydroponic plants.
When you are here, on your weekends off there are plenty of activities to occupy your time. in our place, you can visit many touristic places. you can also visit Toraja, a well known touristic destination is only 2 hours away and easily accessible by public transport. Here you can also discover unique sites in the cliffs and view beautiful landscapes with traditional houses.
As well, just half hour from Palopo you can see the ocean view, go to the mountains, rent boats or come free diving or fishing in Libukang island near Palopo. Then, you can visit Sorowako, Matano lake is massive and has hidden caves you can access by boat. There is also a lovely green area surrounding the lake where you can hang out for the day, have picnics, etc.
There is an amazing Sarambu Alla' waterfall in between Palopo and Masamba where you can also swim and climb to the top and jump in.
We are surrounded by mountains so if you are interested in trekking and camping this is a place for you! There are also opportunities for mountain-biking and motor-cross if that interests you.
Last point, in order to respect our culture, we ask to women here to wear knee-length pants, and t-shirts. Thanks for your understanding.
