I stayed with Kellie and her family for a month on kangaroo island. It was such an incredible experience, and I even ended up extending my stay with them. I cannot recommend them enough.
I was previously staying with someone else on the island, but changed hosts after a week. And I was so thankful to be able to spend the rest of my time with
… read more them. They made me see the island in a completely new light.
From the first moment I arrived Kellie made me feel at home, introducing the many many adorable animals at her property (though it took me a couple days to learn everyone’s names!) and everyone in the family.
Their kids are really lovely and it was so much fun to be around their constant energy and happiness. When I picked them up from school it was absolutely the highlight of my day :)
Kellie was kind enough to let me use their cars from the first moment and encouraged me to go and explore the island, and that gave me such freedom!
They gave me so many tips as to the best places to see and have lunch if I wanted to, and I always had more than enough time to go for a quick drive during the day.
The work itself isn’t hard at all and is nicely varied. I always had a lot of free time as well. I did the laundry, washing of dishes, cleaning, little bit of organising some cupboards and feeding the animals. I also helped out at their farm where they made me feel so included, as if I had also been working with them for the last twenty years or more :)
They even let me try out shearing a sheep!! (And were super encouraging though I doubt I was very good)
The caravan is a super lovely place to stay - you’ve got loads of room for your things, a comfortable bed, and a nice private space if you need some alone time. But you are also only literally two steps away form the house, so you’re never excluded from anything and close to the toilets.
Simon and Kellie are very inviting and even though their kitchen was being renovated when I was there, there was delicious food every night and I loved having dinner and a couple beers with them.
They are incredibly nice people and will include you in their family instantly, I am probably going to go back again to them while I am in Australia, because they have an uncanny ability to make you fall in love with the island and everyone who lives there!
They invited me along to family dinners and basketball games, and Kellie made sure I saw pretty much every single tourist attraction on the island, as well as many that aren’t as well known.
Kellie and Simon spent three days at the end of my travels driving me around the island and showing me these amazing places even though they both have work.
I cannot express my appreciation enough. They are always looking for more workawayers and I truly recommend them for everyone who wants to experience true aussi life on kangaroo island.
You can’t go wrong with them :)

We absolutely loved having Jing stay with us. As this was the first time we had a workawayer stay with us we didn't really know how it would go. Jing was amazing, it was so nice to come home from work and not have to worry about washing or cleaning the kitchen. She is a nice person that fitted in well with our family, who all adored her. We wish
… read more her well on the rest of her journey and would always welcome her back.

This was my first Workaway experience, and I truly had a wonderful time. Kellie is an incredibly warm and kind person who showed great care during my stay. Although they are a meat-eating family, they were considerate of my vegetarian diet. Kellie also showed my around the island, which I appreciated. I spent a week there and lived in a charming
… read more caravan next to the house. I assisted with household chores such as washing dishes, doing laundry, tidying the kitchen area, and cleaning the children's room. The property was much larger than I had thought, resembling a small zoo with a variety of animals, making it an ideal spot for animal lovers. The location is perfect, just a 45-minute walk to the beach and a 5-minute drive to the main town, Kingscote.
Thank you again Kellie and Simon, also funny and adorable kids to have me for the week.
Will look forward to visiting again one day. ^^
