    Description

We’re looking for workawayers who physically strong able to dig up parts of the yard and plant new trees. Also, for those helping our older children with school, they will need a university level education. You will experience an amazingly interesting area of Canada and daily life in Victoria, BC. If you like being outdoors in the yard or working on the house, we really will appreciate your skills!!
We live on Vancouver island near the University of Victoria (a 1 hr 40 minute ferry ride to Vancouver) and 25 minutes to Victoria International Airport, 20 minutes to Downtown. We experience the mildest Canadian climate year round in our safe, friendly neighbourhood.

Our family enjoys hiking, swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, dance, volleyball, basketball, badminton, computer games. I work from home, we have great internet. We eat most of our meals at home and really enjoy good food we like to eat outside on nice days. We have lots of fruit and vegetables, and a meat dish like chicken, salmon, but will have vegetarian option with all meals. Summer and some times throughout the year, is very busy for us so you will mostly be provided with food and you will make your own meals. Our neighbourhood is friendly and walkable with lots of paths close to the beach with water access, with water views (including gorgeous Ocean Strait Juan de Fuca!) We live on a quiet cul-de-sac and other workaways and international people who are staying in this area of town too our neighbours are wonderful friendly people. You can walk less than 15 mins to the beach! You can also take a Ferry to Vancouver or the USA. The bus stop is close.

You will have a lot of experience speaking in English, and learning the Canadian way of life. You will not feel like a tourist, rather you will be living as a typical Canadian! It’s good if you’re looking for a place to stay so you can visit the tourist attractions, Workaway is a great way to go. Getting around on public transportation, sharing our casual jokes and customs - all things textbooks can't teach. We are not smokers or drinkers and are looking for volunteers who are similar.
**PLEASE don't message us if you...
-are not willing to step in and help. -spend a lot of time on your phone and watching TV while working or playing with the kids, be kind please.
We would like to arrange WhatsApp or VOIP call (if dates you would like to stay works for both of us) with potential WorkAway volunteers - to help answer any questions you may have and to give you better idea of our family and the home environment.

    Help

We would like help in our gardens during the spring and summer, if you have a university degree in physics, computer science, engineering, geography, math or sciences then helping our kids with homework. We especially appreciate help with gardening and some home renovations, as the kids are now old enough to work mostly independent (with some supervision & reminders). It would be a bonus if you could teach new skills. Perhaps you have a skill (piano, strings, band, singing, dancing, art or a sport, photography, video editing, creating online content, making a webpage) that you would like to share with them? Please keep off your phone when working with the children.

Your primary responsibility when working with the kids is to ensure they are learning upper level math and science, you will need a university degree if you’re helping them. Also assisting with light chores in the house, but during the spring and summer, we really need help in the garden and cleaning in the house.
    Hours expected: 25 per week
Weekends mostly free unless need arises.
