    Description

    Greetings!

We're Roberta, Sebastiano and Girolamo, a family from Venice that made the choice to manage a mountain hut (or "rifugio") in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, more specifically in Forni di Sopra (UD).

The hut was built in 1874 in order to make dairy products.
The farmers from the town used to make cheese and milk in there until 1945; then, after WW2, most of the people from Forni emigrated to other countries so they stopped making dairy products in the mountain huts.
The building has been used as an unguarded hiking shelter until the year 2000, when the town's administration (with the collaboration of the local alpine group) settled for a major renovation of the place.

The rifugio is 8km away from the town, so we're surrounded by nature.
We have a beautiful sight of the Friulan Dolomites right in front of the hut.

We mostly host hikers overnight (with the half board formula) and we serve meals (more or less like an unpretentious hotel/restaurant).
We can have the roughest day of work, but just for the fact that we have the chance to live in a place like this (even only for a season), we have all the chances to feel happy about it.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We'll welcome the Workawayers as a part of our family: we'll accommodate them in their private dorm space and we'll share the same work environment whilst we'll do our best to make them feel accepted and protected.
We're a sociable family and we have a wealth of funny anecdotes about us and our past experiences!

We'll share our interests and our knowledges about mountains and about nature in every possible way (cooking, doing carpentry & woodwork, drawing, painting & such), hoping to teach and to learn something new and interesting.
Workawayers can also acquire some skills in the italian language from us.

We also hope to enrich our host experience learning something about new perspectives of life and living from people coming from all over the world. We're very open minded and we're always interested in expanding our cultural baggage.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Workawayers can enjoy the nature around going for hikes and trails.

Forni di Sopra is quite far from the nearest railway station, but is quite easily reachable via bus.
If you want to reach us, we suggest you to take the train to Calalzo, then take the bus number 110 of TPLFVG (that's the name of the provider) that goes from Pieve di Cadore to Tolmezzo.
Forni di Sopra is going to be one of the nearest stops.
When arrived, we can pick you up and escort you to the rifugio with a Jeep and/or a quad bike.
