    Description

I’m lucky to live in a spacious home in the heart of Central Cromwell, just a short walk from both the lake and river, surrounded by some of Central Otago’s most beautiful landscapes. I’m currently renovating the house and would love to welcome Workawayers who are keen to be part of the process—helping with painting, sanding, gardening, and general hands-on projects. If you have building or electrical skills, that’s a bonus, but not essential—enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are what matter most.

This is very much a cultural exchange. You’ll have your own private room and be welcome to share the home and garden as your own. I provide healthy vegetarian meals five days a week, and I’m always happy to share stories, local knowledge, and a genuine introduction to rural Kiwi life.

In your free time, there’s plenty to explore. We’re close to orchards, vineyards, scenic cycle trails, and some incredible hiking spots. You’re also welcome to use paddle boards and kayaks to enjoy the lake and river nearby. It’s a great base for experiencing the outdoors, local food culture, and the relaxed lifestyle of this unique region.

I’m looking forward to meeting open-minded, respectful travellers who are interested in both lending a hand and sharing their own culture and experiences along the way.

Workawayers are welcome to join in daily life, shared meals, relaxed evenings, and outings to local markets, vineyards, and community events. Outdoor activities like kayaking, cycling, and walks are also a big part of life here.

I can share hands-on renovation skills (painting, sanding, basic DIY), gardening, vegetarian cooking, and insights into rural Kiwi life and exploring the Central Otago region.

I enjoy meeting people from different cultures, hearing your stories, and learning new perspectives, skills, and recipes through the exchange.

I have a large 3 bed lockwood style house with bathroom and additional toilet. You would have your own bedroom and use of the rest of the house. There is a large garden with lots of fruit trees. The house is secure and walking distance to town/ lake. I will cook on work days a vegetarian meal but you would be welcome to cook your own meat if you wish to add to your meal.

    What else ...

The cycling track to Bannockburn and Clyde is less than a KM from the house. The area is surrounded by vineyards and orchards. The skiing is approx 1 hour away. Cromwell is situated between the tourist towns of Wanaka and Queenstown with lots of activities. There are local buses that can take you to Dunedin or Christchurch and Queenstown international airport is a 45 min drive away. I work from home most of the time so will need some quiet time during some days but I'm also really flexible and looking forward to working on DIY projects with you.
