Description
🌿 Volunteer at Buddhist Temple – Hurdal, Norway 🌿
A mindful exchange of work and presence.
This is a peaceful Buddhist temple nestled in the heart of nature in Hurdal, Norway. Surrounded by forests, silence and fresh air, the temple offers a unique space dedicated to meditation, simplicity and conscious living, following the Theravada Buddhist tradition.
We are welcoming 5–6 motivated volunteers for the following periods:
📅 June 22 – July 6, 2026
📅 July 27 – August 10, 2026
This is a beautiful opportunity for people who wish to experience meditative work — working with presence, care and without rush — who love nature, and who feel curious about mindfulness, meditation and Buddhist culture.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
This is a wonderful opportunity for those who wish to experience meditative work — tasks done with presence, care, and without haste. It’s ideal for people who love nature and feel curious about mindfulness, meditation, and Buddhist culture.
All volunteers are welcome to join our meditation sessions guided by monks with over 20 years of experience. A beautiful lake is located nearby, perfect for peaceful walks and quiet moments in the sun.
Our temple also has a spacious Main Hall equipped with a piano, where volunteers are welcome to play music, practice yoga, or do some light exercise.
Help
🌱 What you will help with
Volunteers will support the daily life and development of the temple through practical, meaningful tasks, such as:
- Small renovation and minor fixing-up projects on temple buildings
- Putting up a fence in the garden
- Planting trees and flowers around the new fence area
- Firewood production
- Cleaning, painting and assisting with cooking when needed, only for the volunteer community (not for paying guests)
All the tasks will be done together, sharing skills along the way so you don't need to have experience in those tasks. All work is done in a calm, respectful and supportive atmosphere, where quality and presence matter more than speed.
🛠️ The Exchange
- 5 hours per day, 5 days a week
- 2 days off per week
- Food and accommodation provided (shared room).
- Participation in morning & evening meditation and chanting
You do not need to be Buddhist — only open-minded, respectful, and willing to live simply and consciously as part of this beautiful exchange.
During the weeks when the temple is open for volunteer programs, there are no retreats—these weeks are exclusively dedicated to welcoming volunteers and giving them the attention they deserve.
