    Description

Hello! We are a family of three on a farm in Portland, Victoria - about 4 hours southwest of Melbourne. My name is Emmett, I moved here from Southwestern, Ontario, Canada several years ago (2017) before meeting my partner, Sarah. We purchased our small farm and have been restoring it ever since. We have both studied permaculture, i am a personal chef. and certified in horticulture. applying those principles to our farm and lifestyle has be most fullfilling. My wonderful wife has a back ground in environmental science, welding and now forest fire management (wow:)) I have taken three years off to stay home with our daughter and study. We have an ever-growing garden, goats, chickens and a lot of space. We would love to share our space with like minded people. We are laid back and love a good laugh. We like hiking, biking, foraging, swimming and music (I'm in an 80's glam rock cover band and a punk band). Cooking is an active practice here as we like to grow, hunt, or source as much food for ourselves as we can. I do make my living hiring out my time to various organisations as a chef. We are not experts by any means, but we are always willing to take a crack and love to learn more.

We will start all days off with a breakfast. Either eggs of some variety, warm oats or pancakes or fruit and toast depending on what we are thinking:). Our breakfast always have a Canadian flair (lots of coffee and maple syrup). I have had the time to learn where to forage for food in the region depending on the season we will see what we can get together! It can be. Apples berries, figs, fish, wild game. We love to cook almost every single day. so that in it self is very inclusive. We love to hike down here in southwest Victoria. we have some of the most beautiful land scape, rugged sea cliffs, beaches. lots of places to explore. free camp sites. lots of animals to see. As far as our culture here on the farm just love to be stoked about being sustainable and living a simple active lifestyle. We will share as much of our rural culture and practices as we can. From our wild life and coast line to our town and some of the people

We have been Workawayer's ourselves and have been so fortunate to see how to be a great host. We are not looking for slave labour. just a good mind set to help out and the company. we enjoy likeminded people that would like to practice home steading skills using permaculture techniques maybe learn something new. OR probably teach us something new. As there is help needed on the private farm. We can do tasks together to find a project that is suited best to skill sets.

Tasks can be anywhere from helping with some small builds, like a small green house, a shed for our tractor, chicken coop, light painting, raised garden beds, cut or gather firewood, help clear the bush...or help with the garden: watering, mowing, weeding, gathering the food we grow. just to name a few things. we can try our best to keep it interesting.
