    Description

Shailer Park is a leafy suburban neighborhood between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. My home is in a quiet cul-de-sac street , about 100m from a state park. Wallabies often feed right at the front door and there is an abundance of Australian native birds.
Cheap public transport is only a short distance away.
I, Andrew, will be your host. I am widowed and youngish at heart. My passion is landscape photography, particularly sunrises and sunsets, but I do play in all photography genres. I would be happy to share this passion with any guests, both the taking of photos and the editing afterwards. To get the great shots often involves a bit of bushwalking or kayaking but always involves visiting some of the amazing National Parks and coastal communities found in South-East Queensland and Northern New South Wales.
I love to travel myself and have met some interesting and amazing people along the way. I look forward to sharing our experiences over a meal or a social drink.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

There are plenty of opportunities to socialise with extended family members. My Brother and his partner have been Workaway hosts for some time, and through Ewen and Lesley (Ewen and Lesley at Mt. Cotton, Queensland, Australia) I have met some amazing people from various cultures, and some have become very close friends.
I am currently attempting (poorly) to learn some Brazilian Portuguese so if anyone can help me with that, it would be appreciated.
I have travelled extensively, and love trying the foods and flavours of the region I am in. I would love it we could at least attempt to create some traditional dishes even though it may result in a less than successful attempt. I am not a culinary guru and do not expect you to be one either.

  • Help

    Help

I have a few, not too arduous projects to get underway which include some DIY tasks, house painting and gardening as well as just some help around the house. I am a very hands-on person and love creating things. I am very willing to teach new skills and very receptive to learning something new. I would expect we would share the cooking and creating of meals as another way of learning about our different backgrounds.

    Accommodation

You will have your own recently refurbished bedroom and in most times a bathroom to yourself. On rare occasions my daughter will occupy the second bedroom and during these times the bathroom will be shared.

I would expect that we will share the food preparation and cooking and get to know each other better at the dinner table. I believe food is one of the best opportunities for cultural exchanges.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Shailer Park is within the Logan City district. I am close to Daisy Hill Koala Reserve where you can get close up to our native icons. Wallabies are abundant on site as well as many other native animals. I am almost half-way between Brisbane and The Gold Coast so easy day trips to all their highlights are available.
I am generally an early riser. and relatively early to bed, so all night party animals my home may not be appropriate. Smoking is not permitted in the house or immediate surrounds. Other than that, I am very easy going and flexible.
