Though English is a part of the curriculum in Peruvian public schools, many teachers are not properly equipped to teach the language. English is becoming increasingly important for students to succeed in the post-secondary school environment in Peru and for them to better their circumstances here in Corongo.

Corongo is a Spanish speaking town and there are very few, if any, English speakers here. It is therefore essential that you have a soild grasp on the Spanish language.

There are ten different classes at the primary school, and you would be asked to teach two 3 hour English classes each day (Monday-Friday, excluding) to every grade level.

English curriculum is provided and outlined by the state and will be provided by the director of the school. The curriculum covers all grade levels.

Most students have no English mastery, so a beginner´s curiculum is necessary.

You will have guidance and assistance from all of the teachers whose classrooms you will be teaching English in.

Corongo is a beautiful town with ruins within hiking distance (1000km) and beautiful vistas from nearby hikes to the church.

There is a beautiful hotspring in Atacalla, a beautiful 45 minute hike away from Corongo. The hike back up is brutal (probably two hours, it is beautiful though) but there are cars that will pass by a short walk away from the Hot Springs in the center of Atacalla and there are people who drive down from Corongo who you could catch a ride with.

A three hour trek away are gorgeous Lagunas (Lagunas de Tuctubamba) in La Pampa.

Corongo is a town 3,000 people, so the amenities are not vast, but it is incredibly beautiful and quiet here.

If you are recently out of school, have experience teaching children, or want to make a gigantic difference in the lives of the children in Corongo consider teaching a semester of English here.
