Hi! In our family there is me (Sarah), Graham, a 7yo girl, a 5yo boy and an 8 month old baby. We live in beautiful Chapel Hill area of Brisbane with our dog Cookie and 5 chickens. Our kids love walking in the nearby Mt Coot-tha forest, playing in the backyard, baking, building Lego, doing craft etc. I'm a violinist and a teacher, working part-time, and my husband is a lawyer. We are on a nice big block of land with a separate downstairs area (bedroom and bathroom) available for a workaway or couple. My neighbour has had workaways for a long time and I have met so many lovely travellers through her, and now I'd like my own turn at hosting. We are about 8km from the Brisbane CBD but have a forest with walking trails at the top of our street, up to the stunning Mt Coot-tha lookout. Chapel Hill is a green, family-friendly area and there is a bus at the end of our street too. There are bike paths, and shops are walking distance away. I studied French and Japanese so would love the chance to practice this if it came along....also my children are learning Japanese at school. However, the opportunity to learn some other languages would be amazing, and the exchange of cultures would be so beneficial for the children especially.

Help in the house
We are in a unique part of the world and Brisbane is a unique city in Australia. We are close to the city yet the suburb is quiet, green and leafy. We are close to beautiful bush reserves, and we are in between the Sunshine and Gold Coasts, both accessible by train as well as car. We have hiking trails at the top of our street which lead all around Mt Coot-tha. Our way of life is outdoor based and we love to just go for walks around our neighbourhood. Thankfully it’s a very nice part of the world to be in self isolation at the moment. Having children is a plus as they love to play and will embrace you whole heartedly when you spend time with them. We love looking at our world map and telling the kids about where we have been, so to meet people and learn their cultures would be so educational for all of us!
We mainly need assistance with the kids and running the house. We would love some help in our house with the kids, eg. getting them ready for school, helping with their homework and music practice, playing with them after school. At the moment due to Corona virus schools may be shut again next term, in which case we will need help home schooling the two older children.
Around the house, our animals need food and water each day, plus a walk for the dog and a clean chicken coop. If you are able to help with cooking and baking that would be a big plus. We have a never ending pile of laundry so I'd like help to keep on top of the washing, hanging and folding! Jobs around the house could include weeding, tidying and sorting indoor and outdoor play areas, vacuuming and mopping, cleaning the car. A big job is a lot of sorting and getting rid of old stuff lying around downstairs (I’ll upload a photo) but I need someone to help me with that - impossible to do with three kids at the moment! So if you are one of those people who love organising space that would be great!
If you are a handy person we can find projects for you to do - eg. at the moment we'd like to put some new fencing up to extend the chicken run at the side of the house, and we have a deck and play ground which needs oiling and maintenance.
Above all, we are looking for someone who loves to play with kids and understands them. You will enjoy being in a noisy, happy, busy family and take the imitative to join in with whatever needs doing that day!
A bit of French and Japanese
We live in a double storey brick and wooden house. The family all live upstairs. Downstairs is your bedroom and bathroom which are separate and lockable. You also have your own external door.
Also downstairs is the main kids play area, a home office area, and the laundry (shared). The downstairs area, outside your room, is the messiest part of the house so the first workaway who comes will be helping me sort through it!
In your time off you can walk to the summit of Mt Coot-tha and take in the beautiful view of Brisbane city. You could catch a bus to the city and explore the Botanical Gardens or take a City Cat up the river to walk along Southbank. We have bikes, so you could just bike around our area on the many bike paths.
We are in self-isolation at the moment with all of the city so we are doing lots of home-based activities and staying local!
We are really hoping to find someone who is bright, energetic, loves kids, loves being part of a family and loves helping busy parents with a variety of household tasks.
