    Description

My name is Julia, I work for a company who are partnering with an NGO (association) for a project in women empowerment. Rural and village women in India are very good at craftsmanship and we have the objective to create a marketplace for these women to make their own ware such as baskets, napkins, serviette, place mats etc etc. for them to be able to generate an income. That requires for us to create an online commercially viable marketplace and website. We are looking for two volunteers who have writing, content and visual skills that they can use to prepare the content for this website. All technical and IT assistance can be provided as well as accommodation if required. If you do require accommodation then you will be sharing a room with one or two other volunteers. Do not apply if you don't want to organise accommodation yourself, or need your own space. We are all volunteers and are looking for 2 more. You would be helping for a couple of weeks (until completion) out of Mid-town Mumbai. This is suitable for an articulate person with good English writing and research skills, good knowledge of computers and social media who is interested to assist in such a project. We are looking for well balanced people with an interest in India who are willing to give something to this society.

The traveler will be able to use the website as a reference for his/her achievement and will get references from the NGO and our company. This will be also interesting form a cultural point of view since an understanding of the village people this is being done for is essential. Volunteers who have an academic interest in population control by democratic means. i.e. educating women improving their income etc. are very welcome. Also, the stay in Mumbai is for free if so required. This is a good opportunity for the traveler to obtain an excellent insight into charitable and corporate work in India.

The volunteers will be fully responsible for the content creation of a new website. Supervision will be provided by an IT person and myself. The person coordinating this for the NGO is a lady doctor who is taking a keen interest. The work is undertaken out of an office in Parel, this is mid-town Mumbai. Good English writing and research skills, good knowledge of computers and social media are a must. We are also looking for somebody who is good at photography and can provide guidance to the village women with the design of the produce to make it more appealing to potential purchasers. It does not mean that English must be your mother tongue but it does mean that your educational standard of written English is good. It is essential that the volunteers take this work seriously and come to the office daily to work on this project. This is not an offer to holiday makers for free accommodation. A good contribution is expected. The Association of India was created in 1954 and is an old and very reputable organisation. A volunteer that completes a minimum of one month will be issued with a certificate from the association.

    Accommodation

The accommodation we offer is a shared room in a modern apartment. The room will be shared by one or two other volunteers. There are three single beds. If a couple comes then maybe we can organise a swap to one of the other rooms, but this is not guaranteed. The bathroom is next to the room and there is a terrace to hang out. The apartment is in mid-town Mumbai.

Breakfast at the house, lunch at the office and dinner has to be organised by themselves.
