  • Description

Hello and welcome! My name is Abdallah and I run a Bedouin camp in the Wadi Rum desert together with my father Madallah. Being members of the Zalabieh tribe, our ancestors lived here for centuries. We love our homeland and like to invite you to come and experience it - our lifestyle and the desert. We are very proud to show this little paradise to our guests - in the camp or on a guided tour.

The camp itself lies below a beautiful, rocky peak with an incredible view from our big dining tent. It is a wonderful place to stay and work with us. In your free time, you can hike the open desert, climb peaks, learn arabic, relax in the camp or participate in one of our jeep or camel tours. If you are a rock climber, there are some nice boulders just behind the camp.

The variety of jobs at the camp never leaves you bored. From helping with the tourists to general maintenance in the camp, we will be happy to count on you. There is something for everyone here!

  • Help

What we need at the camp:
+ maintaining our website and booking platforms, incl communicating with clients through email and WhatsApp

+ to help to feel our guests welcome: show them the camp, help them with their needs
+ to keep the camp nice & cozy: cleaning the tents and the area
+ general maintenance of the campsite: repairing minor damages, helping with infrastructure improvements

What we need in the house in the village:
+ some general help in the house
+ speak and teach our kids in English (15 to 4 years old)

In February and March 2018, we seek someone with Web and Photo editing skills as we are in low season during this period. We want to upgrade our online presence. From April 2018 on, we are looking for help in the camp and in the house (village) in all fields.

  • Accommodation

We will provide you with your own private, comfortable tent in the camp. When work is needed in the village of Wadi Rum, we also offer a stay in your own room in our family home. Weather permitting, you can also choose to stay for the night just under the stars in the desert.
You eat (three times a day) with our guests in the camp or when in the village with our family. If you are vegetarian, no problem. Just let us know!

    What else ...

We offer a very safe, respectful and charming enviroment for our workawayers. We welcome both men and women to be with us. Please understand that we can only accept applications with a minimum stay of one week. We are a very tolerant and understanding family and expect this also from our future volunteers.

What to bring? You do not need any special equipment or clothing for your work in the camp. If you want to go online, you will need either a smartphone or a laptop with WiFi capacity. When you come during the winter months, be aware that nights can be cold - warm clothes are essential. Some people wish to bring their sleeping bag for their comfort (but we provide enough blankets for you). Hiking boots are a must when climbing the mountains behind the camp.
