If you like nature and are tired of city come to help us!
UPDATE: It is important for you to be a good idea to work, cook, rest, hang out... by yourself. I live in another neighborhood of the town and I spend only a few days a week on the project. For this reason couples are very welcome, as they often seek this 'retreat' time. I give you a map to cycling or hiking around - and of course, as many tips as possible.
The main project is to build an ecotourism agency and a cultural space for the community. The current subproject is to build the first small Swiss style chalet, as you can see in the pictures. The volunteer who helps us has in return accommodation in motorhome or tents and most meals guaranteed. My name is Rayllei, a 33-year-old Brazilian journalist and 'former' backpacker. After traveling through Asia, Africa, Middle East and the Americas, I decided to create my own little place. My land is 2.700 m² in a rural area in the village of Delfim Moreira, 4 hours from São Paulo and 5 hours from Rio de Janeiro. I want to quit my full time job in the town and work with ecotourism cause I love hiking in nature, mountain bike, waterfalls and all kinds of outdoor sports. We are in Mantiqueira mountain range, that has a great potential for ecotourism - adventure outdoors sports - but not yet explored like our neighboring crowded towns Campos do Jordão and Monte Verde. So here will be the right choice if you are looking for a place that still lives the Brazilian traditions and is off the conventional tourist route. And... we have WiFi. :P
Help with Eco project
We have mountain bikes for tours in the area, free of charge. We are ten minutes walk from a little rural neighborhood with: bakery, burger bar, restaurants and bus stop to: Delfim Moreira (10min, 6 BRL), Itajubá (40min, 12 BRL) and Aparecida-SP (1h30min, 17 BRL).
The main task nowdays is to make 'ecological bricks': modular bricks made with seven parts soil to one part cement. We have a manual machine that presses the bricks, it's almost like gym. :) Help in building with these bricks is also be very welcome.
Portuguese, English, Spanish, Esperanto, some French
Nowdays accommodating volunteers with the comfort that you deserve is our biggest challenge. But if you enjoy nature and a life outside urban standards, you will like it. We have a simple motorhome and three tents available. It's a off-grid camping structure with outdoor kitchen. I provide most of the food for cook, which can be supplemented at the neighborhood bakery and grocery store. If you want, you can lunch in restaurants (10min walking) with deliciously brazilian homemade local food (15 BRL) or another a bit fancy with buffet barbecue and japanese food (~30 BRL). You can order burgers (6 BRL) and pizzas (20 BRL) as well. Shower heating water manually. Compost toilet. River to wash clothes. WiFi internet in the place, on-grid power for lights, mobile charging and laptops. We have a rustic structure yet, but we are working to have more comfort day by day. We recommend a two-week stay, but you are free to decide if you want to stay longer - or shorter. In the winter is cold here, take your jacket!
Every day buses leave from São Paulo-SP and Rio de Janeiro-RJ to Itajubá-MG, the largest town next.
