  • Description

    Description

We are a community cooperative based in Abruzzo, among the mountains of Teramo in Central Italy. Our mission is to support and regenerate the local area in a sustainable and inclusive way, through cultural, social, and educational initiatives that connect people, ideas, and resources.

As a community cooperative, we carry out a variety of projects aimed at local development. These include a small year-round coliving space with 11 cozy rooms, a multi-purpose hall for events, workshops, and wellness activities, and sports fields that are freely open to the community. We also manage a community vineyard, and an innovation project focused on improving the forest-to-wood supply chain in our region.

The place was born from the desire to create a welcoming, shared space where people from all over the world can meet, collaborate, and live meaningful experiences—both in nature and in connection with our local community.

  • Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Volunteers will have the opportunity to experience a deep and meaningful cultural exchange, becoming part of the daily life of a small mountain village.

Through direct contact with local residents, cooperative members, and other volunteers, they will discover local traditions, the rhythms of community life, and the values of cooperation and mutual support that characterize Italian community cooperatives.

    Volunteers can learn:
    • how a community cooperative works and how participatory local development models are built
    • how diffuse hospitality services are managed (village apartments and a community-run hotel)
    • how a walking route (Cammino) and territorial animation projects are created and developed
    • practical skills related to organization, hospitality, and land and trail maintenance
    • authentic ways of relating based on exchange, listening, and collaboration

Cultural exchange takes place every day through shared work, informal moments, village life, and human relationships, offering volunteers a rich, educational, and deeply human experience.

  • Help

    Help

We are looking for motivated volunteers who would like to live an authentic experience in a small mountain village and actively contribute to community life.

    During the summer period (July–August)
    We need support for:
    • children’s entertainment and activities
    • creative workshops and courses for children
    • babysitting, including care for very young children

Summer activities are closely connected to village life, community events, and welcoming families.

During the rest of the year
We are looking for volunteers who can help with different activities, depending on their skills and interests:
    • support at the hotel reception
    • cleaning of rooms and common areas
    • basic maintenance of the building
    • maintenance and cleaning of hiking trails, as we are developing a walking route (Cammino)
    • administrative and secretarial support
    • collaboration in local community animation projects
    • artistic or craft workshops for local residents

The experience is flexible and co-created together, with the aim of valuing each volunteer’s skills and fostering a genuine human and cultural exchange with the local community.

This host offers a language exchange
We are open to offering our local community a basic English course. If a volunteer is able to teach basic English, this would be greatly appreciated, although it is not a requirement for the experience.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

As a community cooperative, Fanesia welcomes volunteers within the village itself, offering an authentic experience fully integrated into local community life.

For the work–stay exchange, we provide a bed and access to a shared kitchen. Accommodation may be:
    • in apartments spread throughout the village, or
    • in our community-run hotel, with solutions that still allow the use of a kitchen

All accommodations are located within walking distance of the village center, making daily life easy and comfortable.

The spaces are cozy, heated, and fully equipped, with bed linen provided.

Volunteers have access to a kitchen to prepare their own meals independently; grocery shopping is the volunteer’s responsibility.

A private bathroom is provided, or in some cases the bathroom may be shared with only one other worker.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Outside of the month of August, Fano Adriano is a very small high-mountain village, with fewer than one hundred permanent residents. It is a place defined by deep silence, peace, and a slow pace of life, ideal for those looking for a true immersion in nature and a break from hectic routines.

In their free time, volunteers can enjoy:
    • walks and hikes through the surrounding forests
    • exploring the territory of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park, an area of extraordinary natural beauty
    • sport climbing, thanks to the presence of a nearby climbing crag
    • walks and explorations connected to the development of a long-distance walking route (Cammino) we are actively working on, including trail exploration and route georeferencing

This experience is especially suitable for people who love mountains, unspoiled nature, silence, and outdoor activities, and for those who wish to spend time in a simple, authentic, and deeply regenerating environment.
