    Description

I've been living on the small Greek island of Skopelos for the past 30 years, and worked in the travel industry here before returning to my profession as a specialist palliative care nurse.
This is one of the greenest Greek islands, covered with pine forests and is located in the North Aegean, and part of the island archipelago known as the Sporades.
I bought a little town house in the main town of the island around 21 years ago, and have shared my life with a variety of pets over this time.

At the moment I have one cat called Stanley who is a very handsome black and white, who was found in the rubbish around 5 years ago.

Skopelos island is full of history and natural beauty. There are hundreds of chapels and several monasteries as well as museums. The town was designated as a Traditional Settlement of Outstanding Beauty and merits hours of exploration of the little streets winding up to the remains of the Venetian fortress. You will have the opportunity to live in a Greek neighbourhood and to feel more part of the community than you would if you visit just for a holiday.

There are cobblestone paths and trails which criss cross every art of the island making it a wonderful place to hike.
You may want to combine your visit with volunteering for Skopelos Trails organisation (also on Workaway) which maintains and restores the path network.

I'm looking for someone who loves cats and animals in general to house and cat sit when I am in the UK.
I would be looking for someone who is mature and independent, and who will be responsible and caring, someone who is prepared to take care of Stanley and the house as though they are their own.
Stanley is a very friendly and communicative cat who adores human company and cuddles.
I am looking for someone who will monitor his well being and health closely and who would discuss any concerns with me or the island vet promptly.
I am also looking for someone who will keep the house and courtyards clean and tidy, who will water and tend the plants, and who will sort out any small issues that may crop up if needed.

My house is a little town house located in a quiet neighbourhood called 'Vrahos' just minutes away from the town waterfront. It is built on two levels, the ground floor is comprised of hallway, bedroom and bathroom and the top floor is an open plan, high ceilinged living room with kitchen area. There is plenty of outside space as there is a large courtyard, a little terrace from the bedroom and on the top level there are balconies at the front and back so plenty of choice to sit outside to have a meal or a drink and enjoy the views of the village and hillsides around

The island is a place that appeals to people who love the outdoors-enjoy hiking, cycling and swimming here. If you are artistic there is plenty of inspiration for painting or photography.
It can be very quiet out of season so if you are visiting then you would probably need to be someone who enjoys tranquillity and the simple things in life. Its also important to note that the weather in Skopelos in the wintertime can be very changeable-we get a lot of rain and sometimes even snow! It can be stormy with strong gale force winds and sometimes the island gets cut off from the mainland as the boats are unable to sail. That said there are often some bright and sunny days with calm seas, and the light and skies in wintertime can be very beautiful
You will also need to be aware of the limited boat timetables in wintertime-there is usually just one boat a day which leaves from Volos so getting to Skopelos from Athens is likely to take 1 to 2 days.
