  • Description

    •Welcome to Paradise•
    Kia ora,

This is a bush retreat/permaculture farm situated in Pakoka Scenic Reserve, looking over beautiful Aotea Harbour.

It is all started a few years back when Daniel found his passion for sustainability and community living. He invited his family and friends on a gathering and started sharing his vision of Hakea. Since then, a lot of people contributed to this vision in many forms including art, building, permaculture, sports, music, science, bushcraft, yoga, love and most importantly just by being upporting it. We always look forward share and learn alternative thinking, curiosity, creativity , knowledge and experiences.

We offer a vast knowledge in different fields:

Dan: as an engineer and a sparky by trade, there is not much Dan can't get his head around. His main role is infrastructure. He knows a lot about sustainability, building, plumbing, electricity, solar power and animal integration. Outdoor activities are also his field and he is the man to go if you want to learn surfing. He is great with his intuition and a great problem solver.

Merve: growing up in a rural village in Black Sea Mountain range, she is forest child. She had first hand experience living off the land, sustainable life and community. She is a power house in her knowledge of herbs, organic gardening, maramataka plant science, food forest designing, water catchments, preserving food, soil biology and invisible structures. She is a scientist. Her role is Permaculture Designer. She is also interested in teaching Permaculture and well being practices to others. She is good at planning and research.

Whatever you end up spending time with, you will learn from first had. You will be living off the land, maintaining a forest garden and food forest, help setting off grid living systems, help our conservation project to regenerate native bush and will help setting up for workshops, courses and events. It will be an internship where you actively take part in activities and learn. This is an experience of dipping your toes into a new world where a different way of living is possible. It is a great opportunity for those that wants to experience land living.

With the knowledge you gained living with us, it's possible to start your own project or simply become more aware. We suggest staying longer to maximize your experience and learning.

Our main focus is creating a high ecosystem that benefits nature, animals and humans, also to be self sustainable.

We have two different positions available. (See below)

Please when writing to us give us a description of which position you would like to be involved in and how you would suit this position.

Please read all carefully before writing to us just so you have a good understanding of what you are going into, if you have any questions please ask as we are very open people.

We are located 25 minutes *Out* of Raglan on a scenic reserve.

For getting to the Paradise, we can pick you up from Hamilton or Raglan.

We would like all Workaways to arrive on a Friday (no later than 3pm) as then we have the whole weekend to connect with each other, show them around the Paradise and to learn the ropes.

We are detailed people and always go for our best, we have passion for what we do and we are loving people.

    One vibe, One tribe

    •Welcome to Paradise• (Overveiw)

We are in the middle of a Scenic Reserve. We have different buildings with multipurposes like chill zone, warm room or casa.

We have two gardens, food forest/orchards (Temperate, Mediterranean and Tropics). Our facilities based on Spring water, Solar power and Wind, Food forests and Waste management.

Main house - Casa - has a big kitchen, really nice lounge area with a fire place, a piano, different instruments and board games. Also has a dining area which looks down a beautiful bush view.

!We do not have fridge, tv or wifi, however there is mobile reception in the casa and can create a hotspot if needed but full reception is find on the outside the house and or the hill (nice views promised :), 5 min walk)

We use solar power for our lights and to charge our phones.

We have one long drop near the Casa which we use for night only as it is closest to everything.

We have three long drops going half way up a the hill which we use in the day to give the night long drop a rest period. (which works well)

We are currently constructing a proper composting toilet near the Casa but this project is still under going and not completed yet.

We have a gas califont shower in the spa area which is outside of the Casa. The shower has always hot water, good pressure and a beautiful view if you let the door open.

Kitchen, shower, dining area and common areas are shared.

Please be aware of this and respect everyone's space. Clean as you go and please leave every place as you find.

You do not have to bring your own towel, sheets or shampoo etc. As we provide them.

If you'd like to bring your own shampo, body wash or hand wash please pay attention it to be ecofriendly as we recycle the water from showers and kitchen to the garden and orchards.

Please when mailing us please use (CASA) as the “subject” this is to assure us that you have read everything.

Thank you for reading, we really appreciate this.
