    Description

We live in the beautiful seaside town of Mahone Bay, on Nova Scotia’s South Shore. It’s a vibrant little town, especially in the summer and fall, known for its colourful waterfront, friendly community, and relaxed coastal pace. Over the years, Mahone Bay has been featured in many publications as one of the most beautiful towns in Canada—and it’s easy to see why when you’re here.

Our home and barn are over 150 years old and feel very much a part of the fabric of an East Coast town. The barn has been converted into a cozy, self-contained space that we offer to our Workaway guests. Downstairs, there is a full bathroom and kitchenette, and upstairs is an open living and sleeping area with large picture windows that let in lots of natural light. There is air conditioning upstairs for warmer days. The space can accommodate a small family, with a queen bed and a single bed with a trundle, and it is pet-friendly.

At home, it’s usually just my husband and me, along with our very friendly dog. My husband has had a stroke and isn’t very active anymore, so I manage most things on my own—which is where a bit of help truly makes a difference.

The outdoor space is not large but has lots of potential and simply needs some care and attention. Projects might include leveling and repairing a gazebo, removing a block fire pit, and some exterior painting. None of the work is especially difficult, but it’s more than I can comfortably handle on my own.

Before moving here, we lived in a large city and really valued being surrounded by different cultures, food, and people from all over the world. We miss that connection and would genuinely enjoy welcoming someone (or a couple) into our space, sharing stories, meals, and a bit of daily life here on the South Shore.

If you’re looking for a peaceful place to stay, close to the ocean, with a bit of meaningful work and a warm, easygoing home base, we’d love to hear from you.

Mahone Bay has many volunteer groups I work with plus the Visitors Information Centre. The South Shore is home to several TV shows and movies because if its beauty. Beaches and Trails are all around. Bikes available to borrow. I would enjoy showing the best of Mahone Bay and its people. There are other close towns of equal beauty to explore. Meeting locals is a wonderful opportunity to learn all about Canada as many residents came from somewhere else in Canada.

    Help

I need a second pair of hands and someone to help with these outside projects. A deck needs levelling. I need some painting and staining on outside structures. I also need help removing the surround of a fire pit which are cement blocks. Other small tasks like that. Moving blocks and levelling a few steps. A firewood storage area needs completing as does short wall hiding garbage bins.
I have tools and I’ll have the supplies on hand. If the weather is bad for outside work, there’s a bit of interior painting and cupboard doors to sand. None of it is very hard or difficult but easier with two doing it.
