    Description

We are a young couple. Husband (Shivam) is Portuguese and Wife (Amari) is Indian.

We live in a beautiful property that is 100% Solar Powered. We also have our own water source making us completely sustainable. We are totally off the grid but we have great systems in place. We have a total of 11 hectares of land. We also have a salt water pool. We are approximately 25km from Monte Sahaja (Sri Mooji) and 45 mins to the coast.

The access to our place is via dirt road 2.5 km and we are isolated but everything you need is right here or in the village (10 mins drive) or in Odemira which is 25 mins drive away. We are able to take you there when we head that way. We are about 45 mins to the coast. We are completely surrounded in nature.

In exchange for help you will get meals & accommodation (separate quarters with an en suite bathroom this is a SHARED ROOM and can fit 2-3 volunteers for the autumn and winter months) It is likely you will be sharing this space usually two people share. In spring and summer accommodation is in a tent. If you are just one volunteer here then the room is for you. We provide a tent, pillow mattress and you will need to bring your own sleeping bag. The months of camping are May, June, July, August, September and some of October.

On days off we are happy to take you with us, to the beach or around. If you drive and are responsible you may have use of the spare car.

We do offer a wage to those who come to work with us when we are open for business which is a classed as an Alojamento local. The main season for this is simply July & August.

What we pay for this is to be discussed directly with the volunteer and also is dependent on an interview. You will have to pay your own taxes and also your own food if you opt for this option. What we have seen is that most people choose to straight up volunteer due to the cost of food these days and tax!

When we are not at full open occupancy for business it is straight forward volunteering. But this also required to help update and clean the property rooms as well as our private home and also maintaining the garden and areas. A full list of what the tasks are can be emailed to you and discussed with you before you come.

This is a remote but amazing place, so if you are interested in being in a buzzing place with lots of activity or if you get restless this may not be suitable for you. If you are a nature person, like to be alone or help with others in a peaceful environment, and can immerse yourself in a quiet space, this is the place for you.

We have a lot of fun here especially in the Spring in Summer where we do Pizza nights for us our volunteers and our guests. In the autumn and winter it is more quiet with one or two max volunteers and it is for this reason you will need to be able to work on your own.

In the spring and summer when we are full you will stay in a tent but have access to communal kitchen, shower and toilet. if there are no guests you will stay in a shared room. The room also has a wood burner so it is very warm in winter. It also has a communal kitchen attached to it for teas, to make your evening meal (we make lunch together and or dinner usually one meal per day on working days) and breakfast. This is a space however that is to be maintained and cleaned by volunteers.

Meals will be mostly vegetarian or with fish.

Currently we have organic fruit trees: apricots, figs, lemons and oranges, pomegranates, plums, apples, pears and some vegetables growing in our garden.

We would need mostly outdoor work:
    -building shade areas
    - sweeping the terrace
-cleaning and maintaining the spaces outside
    - some construction if it is applicable and needed
    - painting - only in late spring and early summer.
    - gardening
    - taking care of the pool
    -strimming
    - weeding and more weeding :)
    - cleaning rooms and the house (all year around)
    - cleaning the pool
    - digging trenches
    - smoothing paths made by some animal destruction. :)
    - maintenance around the place.
-walking the dog and feeding her.
    - house sitting if we go away.
    - compost
    - recycling and trash sorting.
    - cleaning outdoor surfaces, filling flowers and beautifying the place.
    - Some art work
    - Closing spaces and taking down things in the winter.
-maintaining the cleanliness of the communal kitchen
    - helping with laundry.

We have a lot of outdoor work and this is where we need the most help. If you are skilled in building and construction then this is what we are really looking for at this time. It is not necessary, but is very much what we need most of the time. We require help cleaning rooms, and generally tidying the outside areas as we constantly welcome guests. Dog care such as walking the dog or feeding it may be necessary.

We also require that you are clean and tidy and responsible. A daily chore is to help with sweeping the leaves off the terrace/ compost and recycling and general cleaning of the house and guest rooms.

We are looking for those who are self motivated and can drive themselves. Sometimes you will be alone working or with two or three people.

We are very accommodating and happy to have volunteers who are willing to learn share and help to us. We have flexible volunteering hours and this can be discussed in more detail in the application process. We prefer to have everything discussed before hand via skype or a call.

A typical day is like this:
Wake up have breakfast (you have food provided for this in the communal kitchen)
Tidy up after breakfast, clean dishes, surfaces and floor of the space you use.
Work at 9am (changes due to the season summer starts early due to the heat) START on time, tools prepared beforehand
    12 noon stop and rest
12:30/1:00pm Lunch (this is a meal prepared by all of us together or you if we are unable to)
3-5pm work (again start on time with tools ready before 3pm)
    5pm rest
6 pm Dinner (we provide you with food to cook yourself or with the other volunteers if there are. OR we also do dinner altogether)
7pm tidy up after dinner. (dishes, surfaces, sweep communal kitchen, put things away)
    Rest, leisure time

You will be required to bring:
    - sleeping bag
    - your own towel
    - working clothes and clothes you don't mind getting dirty
    - working gloves
    - wellington boots if its autumn or winter (if needed)
    - good working shoes
    - torch
    - alarm clock or watch
-rain jacket (seasonal definatley in SPRING AND WINTER)
(Please do not think flip flops are enough in summer as we do lots of proper work outside.)

Simple email checking and internet surfing is fine. We have plenty of books to keep you entertained.

We require a minimum commitment of 2 weeks. Ideally we are looking for the right people to come and stay here for 2-3 months at a time.

    Thank you
    Om.

    Amari & Shivam

You will need to be open, happy, fun and able to work as a group and or completely ALONE. You will find being here relaxed, but with a steady work flow. we are flexible good people, however we are good workers ourselves with a strong work ethic. We and we are generally vegetarian eating occasional fish. We are not opposed to those that need to eat meat but you will need to cook this yourself and provide this yourself (we shop for you and take you, otherwise meals are free)
