    Description

Hi, I'm Torsten and I could really do with some help right now,
So if you're in the area and can make a last-minute decision, you're more than welcome!
In February, we had flooding from the river here, and the aftermath of that event has kept me very busy with work on the land.

I'm in my late fifties, but young at heart. I come from Germany and ended up settling here in the area a few years ago while travelling.
I live on my finca right on the Rio Guadiana, in a small house, together with Luna, my gentle dog and with Oscar and Lulu, my two cats.
There is about one hectare of land with mainly olive trees, some orange and fig trees, some grapevines and a vegetable garden.
I love cooking (vegetarian) and enjoy good and healthy food, I bake my own bread. I love nature and try to keep my ecological footprint as small as possible.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

I am very interested in cultural exchange and enjoy every new experience and insight that life gives me and that I can share. I love having deep conversations and philosophising.
We can learn language from each other and shareing knowledge about crafts, gardening, permaculture and sustainable living.
I would like to learn more about Qui-Gong and Yoga. Also I would like to improve my Spanish.

Music has accompanied me throughout my life, even though I have no formal musical training. Making music together is fun and I find it fulfilling. You are playing an instrument? Bring it if you like! I’m playing bass and little guitar.

When interacting with people, respect and empathy are most important to me. Respecting privacy and treating each other responsibly are key priorities.

Come with your friends or bring your family.
Enjoy a peaceful and simple life surrounded by nature.

    Help

Volunteers can contribute to daily work as well as individual projects according to their individual preferences and interests. I particularly appreciate the creative aspect of this!

Daily work on the finca, such as:
    - Tending the vegetable garden
    - Cooking meals for the community
    - Preparing and preserving harvested fruit
    - Various activities in the finca, e.g. chopping canha, mowing grass, making firewood
    - Handling tools and equipment
    - Keeping everything clean and in good condition

For the the olive harvest from October to December, I would like to bring a team of volunteers together. This would mean a reliable stay of 2, maybe 3 months. Coming in your own camper would certainly be an advantage here. The harvest is a lot of work, but it's also fun and a great experience. You will learn about olive oil production, how to prune the trees and you will receive your own olive oil!

Do you have craft skills such as woodworking or natural stone working, or other craft experience? Are you a carpenter, plumber or bricklayer? Then you might be interested in one or more of my planned projects.

There's my old Mercedes bus, converted to a camper van with a double bed, an extra guest bed for possibly a child or two, sitting are with dining table, a wood burning stove, a tiny kitchen with fridge and two flame gas cocker, 12 volt solar power.

We live completely off the grid here, have a drinking water source, cook with gas, heat with wood, use solar energy and have a composting toilet.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

In your time off you can explore the beautiful Andalusia and Algarve. Meet up with the many friendly and welcoming people in a multi-cultural community on Spanish and Portuguese sides of the river. We have music nights, concerts and festivals in the nearby villages on several occasions during the year. Water sports, boat trips, great hiking and biking era. Depending on the season, fishing is possible.

    Families are welcome!
Here is plenty of space for your camper van or caravan!
If the chemistry is right, a longer stay is possible.

The nearest village is about 10 km away, the nearest town 30 km. In emergencies, I will of course arrange transport, but if you want to be independent, you should be mobile.
