We are a 130-acre organic farm in East Sussex, UK, set in stunning surroundings with woodland and lakes. We run a small herd of beef cattle and flock of sheep. We are particularly interested in sustainable farming and good food. We also have a butchery where we make our own burgers to sell at local events. There are two families living on the farm, various dogs, a cat and horses. We're a lively set up with teenage boys and girls (4), with plenty of comings and goings, summer camps and farm open days etc. Summer months are our busy time, with field work, grass maintenance, animal husbandry. We need someone with practical skills and a willingness to join in with a whole variety of tasks on the farm. Self-contained accommodation in basement flat in annexe of main farmhouse, with use of indoor pool and access to beautiful environment. Our last workaway came for three months and stayed nearly a year.

With a world becoming more dominated by agri-business, this an opportunity for a volunteer to learn about agri-CULTURE - sustainable, organic farming with best practice in both animal husbandry (including homeopathy), land-management and the production of good food. Our working ethos is very much team-based, so we hope to learn too from our visitors' experiences and skills. There will be opportunities to develop people skills, with us and the many visitors to the farm. Language development. Opportunities to mix in the nearby village which is full of alternative groups, practitioners, community-run farms, events - with opportunities for skills exchanges.
Help with field maintenance - topping and haymaking on fields; lawn mowing; general tasks around the farm. Animal husbandry. Willingness to muck in wherever needed over the busy summer months.
Self-contained basement flat in annexe of farmhouse. Double bedroom, en suite shower room, a galley kitchen with washing machine and dryer. We prefer to live independently, but work together - although there will be opportunities for shared meals and family time together. We provide enough money for food and use of vehicles when engaged in farm work. Use of indoor swimming pool and beautiful surroundings. Might suit a couple.
We live near an interesting cosmopolitan village, Forest Row, and within striking distance of London and Brighton. Local bus services available - 20 minutes walk away. Bikes available to borrow.
