    Description

This year we are going to rebuild our theater in wood, strawbales and cob. We will do this together with youngsters, youth-workers and artists from the area, the people from the place in the Netherlands and international volunteers. The community building project will be running from mid-April until mid-Oktober.

    -
We are a NGO based in The Netherlands working with youngsters that have dropped-out from the regular education system: creative, free, authonomous and sensitive young people that need a different environment to develop themselves in a vital way. We are currently expanding towards a second location in Portugal in order to give local youngsters a place to grow and evolve and re-enter society as an individual full of self esteem. The help we need will be focused on the project in Portugal.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We make a lot of time for artistic expression so everyone with any kind of skill is free to express theirs. People from different cultures will join in and we are in close contact with the locals of the nearby village. During the helping hours you'll be working closely with our local colleague Rui, there is a lot to learn in building and agricultural practices by just doing and by participating. You'll be seeing the locals a lot because there is close contact between us and the village.

For the upcoming season the project consists of building a small theatre in organic materials; the theatre will serve as a supportive structure for the project. If you have affinity/experience with building with wood, cob and strawbales, you are more then welcome. We will as well encourage any kind of land-artistic contributions to the project and the community. Because we work with sensitive youngsters, it is important that you can co-operate with this beautiful young generation, aged 14-20! From April till Oktober there will be a changing and mixed group of volunteers, local people, artists and youngsters. Rui is a local beekeeper that spends most of his time at the farm, will lead the building project and loves to share his community-living skills with anyone that has the will to participate in a natural way.

You'll be provided a room with a double bed in a granite building close to the river. There is an outside kitchen and a lovely toilet-bathroom with warm shower. The place is wild and savage, dominated by mountains and rocks and a swimable river. The place is crossed by a natural wooden hiking trail of 15 kms, which atracts many people to the farm.

In your spare time you can enjoy so many different tracks up and around the hills. There are beautiful hikes to different villages. We live next to a beautiful river which leads to a quaint village in another valley. At a distance of 5 kms there is a lake where you can swim and canoe. The first village you encounter is on a 30 minute walk uphill and there are several bars, a post office, a bank, 3 restaurants, two small supermarkets and a bus connection to Guarda, the nearest bigger city.
