Description
Tim and I have started a brand new permaculture garden on half an acre surrounded by native trees, sea and mountain views. We are looking to grow all our own organic food; veggies and fruit.
Our place suits 2 people as we live further away from the garden and you would have your own self contained accomodation.
My partner Tim and I used to own the Raglan Backpackers and Raglan Surfing School, so we love meeting people from all over the world . We have both traveled a lot ourselves so will like hearing your travel stories.
My passion is organic gardening, and Tim's is surfing. We both have studied meditation, yoga and alternative health. We would love to welcome you to our beautiful little eco town.Types of help and learning opportunities
GardeningFarmstay helpCultural exchange and learning opportunities
Raglan is famous for all its cool eco initiatives, many of which we have been part of. I am happy to introduce you to these organisations or tell you about them. Also keen to share info about growing your own food and how to grow really healthy plants (eg compost making, seed cultivation).
I am also part of the local community garden, farmers market, and crop swap. And a cool thing called Timebank so happy to share info about these too.
And Tim can give you the low down on anything water related! like where to surf and on what tide.
And in your time off there are lovely beach and bush walks right from our door. We have a bike we can loan you to get around, and I am happy to take you to town for shopping (we're an 8 min drive from the centre of town, along the coast where the waves are :) )Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
I would love some help in the garden. I ask for 14 hrs per week, in exchange for accommodation. We can together so you don't necessarily have to have had a lot of gardening experience. We will be weeding , mulching, pruning, planting out seedlings, maybe a bit of cleaning windows, that kind of thing.

Always interested in learning other languages, but would especially be interested in learning more Spanish.Accommodation
We offer self contained sleep out accommodation. We don't actually live onsite, we're 5 min drive away. The sleep outs are new and set up with their own super cute house garden , with banana trees and some veggies. There is a sunny living room /kitchenette (with cooking hob, kettle and fridge), a long sunny deck connects this room to a seperate bedroom sleep out . The deck keeps going round to a seperate bathroom , with outside hot water shower
We only ask for 14 hrs help per week per person as we will leave you to do your own cooking and enjoy the self contained accommodation.
It really is a lovely spot looking out onto the large native trees and local bird life.
Your new home is only a minutes walk to the start of a 1/2 hr bush trail that leads all the way to Raglan's main beach. What else ...
Raglan is so much fun! Loads of water sport options (surfing, kayaks, paddle boarding , all for rent in town). Town has lots of interesting cafes and shops, its the home of over 50 artists so there are plenty of art galleries to explore. Theres an great skate park, and a good music scene with live music each week.
I am happy to pick you up from the bus stop (catch Hamilton -Raglan bus) and bring you for shopping trips, and we have a bike to borrow during your stay, or hitch hiking is very common in Raglan. its a great way to meet locals!
As you can tell I just love Raglan, and hope to share any local knowledge I can.
We have only just started work exchanges, but really enjoyed our first two visitors; they were an incredible help in the garden in the mornings (we worked about 3 hrs each day then took a couple of days off), and the afternoons they made the most of surfing Raglan's famous points, walking the beach, one day they hiked the mountain, and had a fun night out in town. We were all stoked with the exchange at the end, so I thought lets do this again!! Any questions, please just ask, cheers, Suz and TimA little more information
