Description
Kalimera! We are Kj and Debs and we are looking for a responsible , capable couple or 2 friends to look after our 8 rescue dogs and 2 chickens from April 1 for 2.5-3 weeks (the end date is flexible at the moment).
We welcome enquiries from experienced dog sitters or shelter volunteers as 8 dogs are more demanding than looking after yiur own family’s pets!
That said, our bunch are a happy, bonded doggie pack who love attention. Their ages range from 2 - 13 and we have 4 energetic Pointers, 2 affectionate Kokonis, 2 Greek shepherds and a small hairy Griffon cross ! There is a large fenced garden for them to run around in and a kennel area for sleeping. They also have the run of the house!
The daily routine includes feeding, poo picking, ball throwing, and an evening walk for a few of the dogs as others are able to be let out on their own to exercise. During the day the dogs are very relaxed and like to chill out on the terrace but we do ask that you do not leave them on their own for more than 4 hours at a time.
Our house is located 200m from the beach in a peaceful, remote location, surrounded by olive groves and backed by the Lassithi mountains. We have 2 villages nearby (Tsoutsouros 3.5 kms, Kastri-Keratokambos 5 kms) with a couple of seasonal tavernas, coffee shops and minimarkets selling basic groceries.
This area of Crete is undiscovered and very beautiful – an ideal place for nature lovers and beachcombers! However please note that it is remote with no nightlife and no public transport. You will need a driving licence valid for Greece and we have a manual car that can be insured for you to drive during your stay.

We are located just over an hours drive from Heraklion International Airport and the main ferry port (overnight ferries arrive here from Athens and some other islands), and the famous palace of Knossos. We can advise you about how to reach us from Heraklion.

Austin was a great help to us during his short stay with us this summer. He successfully prepared and fitted all the pipework for our new bathroom including installing the toilet. I stayed here for 2 wonderful weeks. I don't think I have ever eaten so well in my entire life! The vegetarian lunches and hearty suppers were amazing and you never feel lonely with one of their dogs always around to want to be pet. Keith and Deborah are fantastic hosts and the country side was perfect for day hikes. :)
