Description
Josephine and Terry dedicated their lives to saving / helping Australian wildlife. Caring for Australian animals - mainly kangaroos and birds with the occasional wombat, echidna, lizard or emus. All the animals have been rescued and either have injuries or are babies whose mothers have been killed.
Sadly Josephine passed in away August 2025 leaving Terry to carry on with the rescue of our precious wildlife.
Terry operates a large Aboriginal art gallery (with art, didgeridoos and artefacts) / opal shop and as well as the Kangaroo Orphanage in the main street of Coober Pedy, the OPAL capital of the world.
The Orphanage is totally self funded and to this end Terry has purchased a rental property in Coober Pedy to provide an income stream to support the Wildlife rescue work.
Terry is also a car collector and Speedway driver so all car enthusiasts are more than welcome.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
You need to have a good sense of humour and be prepared to live with baby kangaroos jumping around the house!
This is an unique opportunity to live in one of the most interesting towns in the world, learn about opal (Australia's national gemstone), learn about Aboriginal art and heritage plus learn for free to play the didgeridoo.
Share a home with Terry and Tommy Crow one of Australia's leading Indigenous artists who works as artist in residence at Josephine's Gallery.
Lots of laughs and great food.

Always looking for help with a variety of tasks - DIY, cleaning the yard, some light construction work, fencing, gardening, painting, helping out in the gallery, household tasks and/or general housekeeping. Being able to operate power tools, do some concreting or tiling and tasks without supervision will be considered a big asset. There is always something that needs doing around the place.
Your hours vary according to the weather, averaging approximately 5 hours per day with plenty of time off to explore Coober Pedy.
We have a property in the Flinders Ranges that we are renovating/fencing when we can and there may be an opportunity to work explore there as well.

We weren't supervised all the time, but when we needed help, Terry was always there. He even took time to show as around Coober Pedy and his mine.
