Description
Helloooo there! Alex and I (Maureen) landed in OR in 2022, after traveling the country in our self-converted van, searching for a place to put down roots. We found our home about a year ago, and have been slowly and intentionally working with the land to create our own little slice of heaven.
Our 8 acre home is nestled on a mountain, overlooking a beautiful valley. About 100ft above our house is an acre of flat land where our garden and incredible views live. There are lots of little trails and hidden areas throughout the property to retreat to as you travel up the mountain, as well as small vineyard and seasonal creek. We back up to BLM land, so it's easy to feel quite secluded on our land (if you so please). We have a super friendly pooch named Jagger who loves making friends, playing fetch, and protecting the land.
We feel incredibly blessed to have fallen into this land, and are eager to continue building up the property in hopes of creating more space for our community.Types of help and learning opportunities

Maureen is a certified yoga teacher who loves to share her practice with anyone interested. She is passionate about holistic health, Ayurveda, and has recently dipped her toes in the vast world of herbalism, eager to learn more. Alex is super into permaculture, has an extensive background in construction, and has recently dove into all things sourdough. We love exchanging knowledge and skills with anyone interested just as much as we love learning from others!
We are pretty low key people who enjoy spending time outside, cooking (and sharing) good healthy food, exploring, laughing, listening to music and playing games. We are sociable and love hanging with the community, but value alone time just the same. If you choose to come stay with us, please don't expect us to entertain you 100% of the time. This land offers a beautiful opportunity to slow down and reconnect with yourself and nature, and it is something we hope our visitors take advantage of. We hope to offer a nice balance of community and solitude in nature.Help
We are looking for anyone who is a hard worker, loves being outside and gettin' their hands dirty, and enjoys creating and collaborating with others. We are open to any skill level, as long as you have ambition and are eager to learn and grow alongside us. We have a variety of projects we hope to tackle on our property, as well as keeping up with basic outdoor maintenance. A good attitude and good communication skills are definitely important to us…we want to view our guests as friends and community members, so fluidity is key.
All that being said…extra brownie points if you have a background or interest in permaculture, herbalism, or natural building...Alex and I are still beginners, so learning alongside people with shared interests is invaluable to us. But again, as long as you're a good, positive worker who vibes with what we got goin’ on here, we would love to have ya.
Some projects on our to do list:
-grow/maintain garden area
-basic outdoor maintenance
-maintain water system
-help out with chickens (we have 20 of em!)
-build a greenhouse
-enhance community space
-build a sweet fire pit
-if you are inspired about something on our land, please let us know! One of the coolest aspects of living with new people is getting to know their creative minds- new project ideas are always welcome!Languages spoken

Accommodation
Work traders will be staying in our garden area in a big tent (12x14ft ish, lots of ventilation and standing room). The tent has an air mattress and a few tables/bins to keep things in...we tried to make it as cozy as possible :) We built a beautiful outdoor shower and kitchen (with some kickass veiws), both equip with hot water, and we have plenty of cooking and sleeping gear to keep ya cozy and nourished! Your comfort is important to us, so if there is anything we can do to enhance your stay (within reason), we will.
We recently got a solar powered generator that allows for some wi-fi up by the garden/guest area so you can use your tech if desired, otherwise you can shut down and enjoy the off grid life!
We plan to offer food staples, such as: organic oils, rice, beans, pasta, grains, etc. We have 10 chickens, so eggs are plentiful, and when the garden is producing we have a surplus of fruits and veggies to share with our guests. Please let us know if you have any specific dietary restrictions/requests, and we can most likely accommodate you. We will aim to have one-two family meals a week where we will offer organic meat (if desired).
Our water source is from a gravity fed spring on our property, which has been tested and is safe to drink. What else ...
We are about 30 minutes outside of Roseburg (bigger town, has a historic downtown, restaurants, shops, bars, live music, etc.), and 15 minutes away from Winston (smaller town, has all necessities, a few antique shops and restaurants, and a brewery). We are surrounded by beautiful wineries that often have live music and food in the summer. There is also an awesome weekly free outdoor concert in Roseburg throughout the summer that we love to go to.
We live about 8 min from a beautiful reservoir that is a life saver in the dead heat of the summer. We are an hour and a half from the coast (Bandon), which has unbelievable views, rock formations, and a charming coastal town with delicious fresh caught fish available. The Umpqua River runs through Winston and Roseburg, and there are plenty of places to pull aside and take a dip. The Umpqua valley has lots of opportunities for all outdoor activities, such as hiking, fishing, swimming, etc.A little more information
