 - Description- Hello there! We are two people (40 +/-) running a small farm in the south of the Alentejo region. We moved here three years ago with the goal of being partly self-sufficient. We are off-grid with solar power and our own water supply.
At the moment, we are looking for a person/couple that needs a place over winter. We offer a nice and cosy yurt and expect in return that you watch after our chicken when we are not around. Also, you can help to prepare the garden for the next season if you like. But we don't expect much work from your side it's more a kind of property sitting over winter time. We are busy people and not always at home. If you are used to work with wood, you can also help to finish our house (it still needs some insulation). For this help we would pay you.
You need to have your own car/vehicle because we live remote and for shopping and other purposes you need to drive. The next town is some 15 kms away, the next village (with a café and a small minimarket) is 10 minutes from here. This deal is also perfect for digital nomads, independent artists or early retirement people who want to stay in Portugal for good and need to start somewhere. We are happy to share our knowledge regarding settling down here in Portugal. If the arrangement works for both sides, we are also open for a longterm community.
 - Types of help and learning opportunities- Language practice - Elderly Companionship - Gardening - DIY and building projects - Animal Care - Farmstay help - Help around the house - General Maintenance
 - UN sustainability goals this host is trying to achieve
 - Cultural exchange and learning opportunities- Discover life in rural Portugal - the Alentejo region is still quite traditional (unlike the Algarve region, which by the way is not too far from here). You get a good impression on how people live and work in the south of Portugal apart from all the tourism hot spots. Also, if you love hiking or motorbiking this area will be a paradise for you.
 - Help- At the moment, there's lots of Medronho fruits to pick and chickens to look after when we're not around.

 - Accommodation- You can stay in our new 30m2 yurt which is located among olive trees near the veggie garden. Our house is on the hill and cannot be seen from your location. If you are travelling with your own van or camper you can find your own spot on our property. There's some infrastructure near the yurt - an outdoor-kitchen, a compost-toilet and a shower-cabin.
 - What else ...- This region is perfect for nature loving people that enjoy a peace and quiet lifestyle. It's a great region for hiking and biking. Also, there are several smaller towns and villages to discover where you will find little shops, cafés and restaurants. You will find everything you need for daily life around 15 kms from here (Almodovar). The famous Algarve region is less than 1 hr car drive from here and you will find shopping malls, tourists attractions and nice beaches there.

I have enjoyed being in the timeless nature. In the morning I took care of the sheep and after I cleared the land from Estevas or worked in the garden. In the afternoon I always had time for myself and I could use the yurt as an atelier for which I am super grateful. This was exactly what I needed at… read more

They are both very pleasant people, easygoing and humorous. Also, they were very committed and lent a hand wherever necessary. They did an amazing job constructing a wooden cabin compost toilet (picture will be in the gallery above soon). Also, they helped us a… read more
