    Description

    Hi!
We are Henrik and Sally and just started our lifelong dream of running this beautiful, non-profit animal sanctuary in October 2022..

We are based in the small village of Varvasaina, Greece near ancient Olympia and live on a beautiful 3 acres property.

Our dream is to create a safe space for negleted and /or abused animals and have them live the rest of their life loved and in dignity. We are at the very start of this project, so there is a lot of room DIY projects and repairs. While we do not have a workshop at the moment we are good connected and are able to provide materials for most projects, such as woodworking, garding etc. As this project needs to be financed and we just rarely get donations, we often have to work a lot of time, so travellers are expected to be able to work independently and without much supervision. Every guest is happily invited to contribute their skill to this project, to make this place grow and flourish.

    Currently we need help with:
    - Animal care (12 Dogs, 1 Horse and 5 Pigs atm)
→ this is the big one. Keep in mind that most of the animals here were severely abused or negleted and need special kind of attention.

    - Gardening / weeding
    - fencing
    - building a new storage area
    - new outdoor kitchen
    - new horse stable
    - fixing the pig pen
    - etc...

This is not our job but our life, so we are really passionate about this project. We want to create a loving and thriving community, so we will not tolerate any racist / sexist behavior, but otherwise everybody is more than welcome to join us on our journey.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We are at the very start of our journey.

Currently we have no type of guest house . We can provide a safe, fenced in area for your camper to stay and running water and electricity . You can also stay in our camper!

    We offer unlimited Wi-Fi.

You have to feel comfortable around dogs. While thankfully none of our animals are overly aggressive you should not be intimitated by some barking :)

    What else ...

It would be great if you could stay for about 2 weeks, longer stays will be discussed during the stay.

Please let me know beforehand what kind of work you imagine for your stay so we try to organize nessesary equipment and materials.

We provide vegan food (at least one cooked meal per day and access to the kitchen to make your own snacks) and drinks (coffee, tea and water is free, sodas and beers have to be paid). Clothes can be washed at our friends Sarah´s place.

In order to get around places I would recommend you to get a rental car or be ok with hitchhiking or using a bicycle as there are almost no public busses here and I usually don’t have time to drive you around.

To get here from bigger cities and back you have to take a public bus to Pyrgos, the bus company is called KTEL.
