Description
Hi!
We are Henrik and Sally and just started our lifelong dream of running this beautiful, non-profit animal sanctuary in October 2022..
We are based in the small village of Varvasaina, Greece near ancient Olympia and live on a beautiful 3 acres property.
Our dream is to create a safe space for negleted and /or abused animals and have them live the rest of their life loved and in dignity. We are at the very start of this project, so there is a lot of room DIY projects and repairs. While we do not have a workshop at the moment we are good connected and are able to provide materials for most projects, such as woodworking, garding etc. As this project needs to be financed and we just rarely get donations, we often have to work a lot of time, so travellers are expected to be able to work independently and without much supervision. Every guest is happily invited to contribute their skill to this project, to make this place grow and flourish.
Currently we need help with:
- Animal care (15 dogs, 2 horses and 4 pigs atm)
→ this is the big one. Keep in mind that most of the animals here were severely abused or negleted and need special kind of attention.
- Gardening / weeding
- fencing
- building a new storage area
- fixing the pig pen
- social media obligations
- etc...
This is not our job but our life, so we are really passionate about this project. We want to create a loving and thriving community, so we will not tolerate any racist / sexist behavior, but otherwise everybody is more than welcome to join us on our journey.Types of help and learning opportunities

We are at the very start of our journey.
Currently we have no type of guest house . We can provide a safe, fenced in area for your camper to stay and running water and electricity . You can also stay in our camper!
We offer unlimited Wi-Fi.
You have to feel comfortable around dogs. While thankfully none of our animals are overly aggressive you should not be intimitated by some barking :)What else ...
It would be great if you could stay for about 2 weeks, longer stays will be discussed during the stay.
Please let me know beforehand what kind of work you imagine for your stay so we try to organize necessary equipment and materials.
We provide vegan food -at least breakfast +one cooked meal per day. Also there is a small kitchen in the camper.
In order to get around places you can either borrow our car or a bicycle.
To get here from bigger cities and back you have to take a public bus to Pyrgos, the bus company is called KTEL.A little more information

While he has no Problem doing any physical labour and did everything super satisfactory, he truly shines in the creative aspects.
Regardless of sculpturing with an angle grinder, photo - or videography (just take a look at our Page!) he contributed greatly to our cause.

On the very first day it was quite obvious that it was not her first time working with animals. Absolutely unfazed by barking, loud noises and a lot of energy she had everything under control in no time - even the troublemakers ;)
Besides this it was so much fun sitting by the fireplace, laughing and… read more
Modest, easy going and hardworking. Regardless of cooking, caring for the animals or shoveling shit, she did everything diligent and quickly. Also an awesome person to have fun with. Thank you for your help Clara!
What would we have done without you? During a really tough phase of sickness and tons of work we will be forever greatful for your help. When times are rough you can always rely on her.
