    Description

Nestled amongst tall kānuka trees above a beautiful valley, overlooking bush-clad hills and it gets all-day sun. It's a short walk to the town centre, shops, beaches, bush tracks and marina.
Newly renovated Workawayer accommodation for 1 person or a couple, on an urban-rural organic hillside property .

I am planting native trees and shrubs (250+ so far) on the steep parts of the organic, hillside property and restoring stone walls, paths, raised beds and outdoor living areas.

A 1950s cottage is perched at the top of the wild garden, which needs grass areas tamed and trimmed, weeding, clearing invasive plants, mulch and compost area built, paving done, water tanks hooked up to downpipes and drainage channels dug, steps cleared and restored.

One friendly, elderly cat on the property plus the owner and occasionally other friends and family visit.

    Help

I want to create a 'food forest' with native plants growing up as shelter and companions to edible crops and fruit trees.

Due to age and injury, I can't restore this property on my own.

Workawayers will help with general garden tasks like weeding and trimming grass and tree branches, planting out native seedlings, mulching, digging, paving, clearing debris for removal, chopping firewood, building raised vege beds, and perhaps light construction of outdoor areas and shelters. Seasonally, fruit tree pruning and care, harvesting and planting vege seedlings.

On the house, there are some tasks like finishing the new porch (lining with plywood, painting), sanding, painting and staining a deck.

I work full time, but when I am home (weekends) I'll be joining you in the garden to help, and we can share a weekly dinner or lunch together if you would like that.
Otherwise, you will have your own private sunny accommodation with new bed, ensuite bathroom, large sunny deck to enjoy the birdsong and the tranquility of the wild garden.

Workawayers will be doing 3 hours per day (5 day week) and organising their own food/meals. In your studio you have a basic kitchenette and you are welcome to use the dishwasher and laundry upstairs.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Picton is a beautiful little seaside village with lots of hiking, bush tracks, beaches, kayaking, boat tours, dolphin watching, galleries, pubs and music venues, library, a charming little theatre, supermarket within 15 mins walk. I have a bike that you can use.

There's a bus to/from Blenheim every day. Nelson is 2 hours away, Kaikoura 2 hours and Christchurch 5 hours driving. Ferries to the north island are 25 mins walk away.

I live very simply and quietly. Noise carries in this house as it has wooden floors.
Please use headphones if listening to music, tv, movies and respect that I work full time so need quiet from 10pm-7am.
