Description
Hi. We are a couple with a 14-year-old son and a dog. We live 15 minutes drive from Whangarei and 15 minutes from Pataua North beach. I also travel daily out to the beautiful Tutukaka Coast if you want to explore out there. We have a new home with a self-contained flat, which is where you will stay. It is suitable for one person, a couple, or more (small families if pre-arranged). The flat gives you your own private space with a kitchen, bathroom, and internet access. There are lots of walks, bike rides and beach activities if you want to be active, but it is also a nice place for quiet and relaxation. We like hiking, surfing, biking, and skateboarding (we have a half-pipe, too). We are looking for easy-going people who can help with some building, gardening, and maybe some cleaning (depending on your interests and skills) for only a few hours a day. Pataua North is our closest beach. A stunning beach and an awesome bridge to jump off if you dare!

We are New Zealanders who spent several years living abroad, and we enjoy meeting new people. I am a primary school teacher, and my partner is a builder. We are quite active and would enjoy showing you around our area.

Help
Gardening, some light cleaning, maybe take the dog for a walk, possibly help with community projects if there are any we are involved in at the time. We are part of our local landcare and help with this sometimes. There is a possibility to help out at a local school if you are interested, or if you like you can help with building projects, but not required. Mostly you'll be left to work independently,but sometimes we'll work on projects together.

Accommodation
If only 1-2 people, we have a completely self-contained, fully furnished one-bedroom flat with a queen bed (can add a single bed) and its own lounge, kitchen, bathroom, heating and unlimited internet. This is attached to the end of our home and has a big deck. We also have a cabin available if there are more than two, or a converted garage space. We will provide all bedding and bed linen and access to our washing machine and dryer. You would have your own privacy. We are happy to provide food , maybe you'd like to have meals with us (or perhaps you want to do your own thing, if you prefer). There is plenty of parking if you have a camper or van.
What else ...
Beach, surfing, hiking through native forest, ocean views, waterfalls nearby, skateboarding, and bike rides. Whangarei City is only a 15-minute drive away, and so is the beach. Get your town fix when you need it! Shops, movies, Whangarei Town Basin with the Hunterwasser centre and yachts. There is no public transport near our house. There are buses in town, electric scooters, and it's fairly easy to buy a second-hand car if you are planning to stay in N.Z for a while and travel around. We are happy to pick you up from town, and can drive you into town if it works with our schedule.
