    Description

Welcome to Finca Las Hormigas, a 45-hectare permaculture farm nestled in the lush Caribbean jungle of Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, Costa Rica. Our farm is a blend of sustainable living, regenerative agriculture, and vibrant biodiversity. About 80% of the land is a private reserve, with jungle trails and creeks, while the remaining 20% is dedicated to permaculture systems.

We are passionate about creating a space for learning, working, and connecting with nature. Volunteers are invited to become part of our community, sharing meals, stories, and hard work. The farm is fully off-grid, relying on solar energy and rainwater collection, and embodies a lifestyle of simplicity and harmony with the earth.

We abide by the Permaculture ethics of:

    • People care
    • Fair Share

We are looking for enthusiastic and hardworking volunteers who are eager to contribute to our farm's daily activities.

While everyone is welcome, we especially encourage individuals with soil knowledge or experience in regenerative agriculture to join us. If you’re familiar with bio-inputs, composting, or natural fertilizer production, we’d love to have your expertise on the team!

    Tasks include:

    • Working in our field production fields, (like turmeric, black pepper, ginger...)
    • Assisting with soil projects, bio-input preparation, and composting.
    • Maintaining jungle trails and supporting conservation efforts.
    • Food processing and preparation for farm-to-table meals.
    • Helping with natural building or repairing farm infrastructure.
    • Participating in communal tasks like cleaning, preparing meals, and organizing shared spaces.

Volunteers are expected to work about 5 hours per day, 5 days a week. Tasks are varied, and we aim to match them with your skills and interests wherever possible.

    Accommodation

Volunteers stay in shared bungalows, each can house up to 4 people and includes fresh linens. There is no electricity in the bungalows, but electricity is available in the main house area for charging devices and other essentials!

Meals are shared family-style, primarily serve vegetarian meals, with occasional meat options or adjustments for dietary needs when communicated in advance. :)

The farm is located in a remote jungle setting, about a 45-minute hike or bus ride from town. This provides a unique opportunity to disconnect, immerse yourself in nature, and embrace a simpler way of living.
