Description
A couple of years ago we bought this 100 year old stone farmhouse. We love the location and setting, nestled as it is between a river and a stream ;and that it is a project to restore the house into a home for my partner and I and our grown up children. We have recently made strides into the organic garden -planting quite a few different trees and shrubs which will hopefully grow into and abundant food forest. Help in the garden would be really appreciated. We started to cut down the eucalyptus ( a requirement as well as a personal choice) and the woods behind the house have loads of work left in them to clean up all the branches and stack the trunks for future use in building projects. The space left by the fallen eucalyptus will be used to grow more indigenous trees such as oak and chestnut.

Help
My partner and I will be away from the house from the end of October to approximately the end of May next year and we’re looking for someone to housesit while we’re away.We don’t have any pets or animals to look after, from the perspective of the house it’s just great to have someone here keeping the wood fired heating going AMD living here so the house doesn’t feel abandoned. If you’re like there’s plenty to do in the garden. I am a keen organic gardener that would like to transform the eucalyptus grove into a food forest of native trees. We planted out several fruit trees on another field and have a fledgling vegetable patch started , although over the winter months it’s more or less on hold. There is a composting drum for kitchen scraps. Going into spring garden activity can pick up and I’d love to have a keen kitchen gardener help with the spring planting.

Languages
Languages spoken
English: FluentThis host offers a language exchange
English seems to be spoken widely amongst the immigrant population in the area, however there are several other European languages represented as well as of course Spanish and Gallego, the local language in Galicia is widely spoken and used in official documents, menus & signs etc
Accommodation
Although the house is in the process of being restored it is quite comfortable and work to the main house will be restricted to the minimum as we will be restoring a farm building in the front yard into a living space. So builders may be around and will need to access the kitchen downstairs. Upstairs is kind of open plan with curtains separating the bedroom. There is an upstairs bathroom with a bath, toilet and sink - it has hot water from a gas fired on demand water heater. Upstairs the floors are wood and the walls are a mix of what’s painted tender and bare stone where the render has been removed. Last year the roof was completely rebuilt and the attic floor/bedroom ceiling was replaced. The insulation hasn’t been set up yet so to keep warm there is a wood fired stove in the bedroom and another in the kitchen downstairs. There is a portable gas fired heater that can be used upstairs and another downstairs.
The bedroom had a couple of rugs and a brass bed with a net for the odd mosquito and a duvet.
The kitchen downstairs has a gas oven, a fridge and a wood fired oven/heater. There is a washing machine in the hall by the front door.
There is an electric bicycle for sunny days.
What else ...
The nearest town is cedeira, about 15 mins drive.there are several beaches starting 15 mins drive away too.
