Description
We are a middle aged couple whose children have left home. We live in Seatoun, which is a seaside suburb of Wellington. Our house is situated across the road from the sea and about 2.5 km from Wellington Airport. There is a regular bus that goes into Wellington City.
Kat and Derek are in the process of returning from London, will move back into their house in Jan 27. Kat is a retired Nurse. She works around the house and is keen on gardening, reading and art. Derek has just retired from working at the University College London and is considering what he is going to do next. He likes foraging for seafood, doing the food gardening, playing music and, occasionally undertaking DIY projects.
We have just had an extension built on to our house. The original part of the house needs renovating and the grounds needs landscaping and weeding. We have been away for more than 3 years and the garden has not been maintained during that time. -

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We like meeting people from different ethnic backgrounds as we have lived and travelled around the world. We are happy to show people where we live, what we do and introduce them to Wellington. Visitors will get the opportunity to use their skills and perhaps learn some more skills.
Good nutritious food is very important to Kat and she would like a visitor who is willing to share cooking tasks. -
Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.

Help
The extension build has disturbed the back of the section. We need help to, firstly redesign the garden and then landscape it, put in paths and retaining walls, move plants around and prepare and plant out a garden. Some help painting may also be required, plus some general household tasks.

Queen-sized bed in own bedroom. Shared bathroom. There are two toilets though.
Good nutritious food is very important to Kat and she would like a visitor who is willing to share cooking duties. -
What else ...
The sea is across the road and there is the opportunity for kayaking, boating, fishing, diving, etc. Jumping off the wharf is generally considered one of the requirements to be a local.
Wellington city is close by and Te Papa museum is well worth a visit.
We like people that interact, but also like just sitting and reading. We have hosted and stayed with hosts when we lived overseas. We have also hosted volunteers when we lived in New Plymouth. -
